Oh oh oh ~~ here she is! Lotsa this going on!She led off with El Mezcalito. <--The linked clip is not from this concert, but gives a good idea of the excitement of seeing her in concert. At the end of the thread, I'll include links for studio versions of some of the songs from the Ferrocarril concert. Her voice, range, and delivery are amazing.Los Pollos

You'll note the various additions to the costume. In this video she's donned a wreath of bougainvillea. The song is to honor the women who make tortillas. She donned the white rebozo to sing Cucurrucucú Paloma

Lila put on the resplandor to sing the sad but beautiful La Martiniana ~She gave her own interpretation -- and her all -- to this lively song that even gringos will recognize ~All too soon it was over, although Lila & her inspired group of musicians gave a generously lengthy encore.
Nice exhibition out here on the grounds. I'll have to return in the daytime to see it.Here is a partial list of video links (studio versions) of the songs performed at the concert: La Cumbia del MoleCruz del OlvidoTu CárcelAll of the other (three) videos embedded in this thread are mine. However, I think anyone who has enjoyed Lila Downs' music might enjoy this as well:

Thanks Bixa for bringing us a flavour of that very lively and talented concert. However, as a 'gringo', it is what we used to call Mexican hat music, sorry . It strongly reminded me of an Irish foreman I used to work with. He always wore a battered old hat. At times of stress, while swearing, he would throw the hat down on the ground and do a little Irish jig on it, going round and round. I guess it relieved the tension

Thank you so much, Tod! It's comments such as yours that make sharing things here worthwhile. Que amable, como siempre, Claudia! Solamente es por tí que logré ver el concierto ~~ gracias! Ay, Mossie, Mossie, Mossie! One of the things that is so admirable about Lila Downs is how she draws from & honors tradition while making it fresh and contemporary. I thought some of you might like to hear her singing in a way that might be more familiar to you, & in English besides:

So, weeks ago I agreed to go to another Lila Downs concert with my friend Claudia, her lovely husband, & her mother whom I've not yet met. The concert was tonight & after doing a bunch of stuff today, I decided to skip the concert. Just received this picture from Claudia. She's in the green sweater & black jacket ~~ photo by Esteban Marcial, March 26, 2013It was an accidental encounter & they all got to meet Lila, plus Claudia got a little kiss from her. Pobre de mí!
