As I mentioned in the Budapest thread, we went for a short trip to Szentendre, a small town along the Danube. For an obscure reason, you take a commuter train, then halfway along switch to a bus, which deposits you beside the train station in Szentendre. All we found in our small guidebook was that it was a town known for its history of religious tolerance over the centuries (hence quite a few churches of different denominations) and its present status as a kind of artists' colony. And its proximity to Budapest makes it a popular day trip destination. The unpromising looking bus station where you arrive. The train station is the building on the right. But you soon arrive in the renovated centre of the town On the central square, a café and a church

I do like the cat, and the witch? climbing the pole. ;D A good report of a nice tourist distraction from Budapest.

I like the cat as well. The photos are really great, bjd. Is that a "tag" on the building in the photo beneath the cat?

Yes, it looks like a tag. Didn't see many though.
I'm pleased with the cat picture too -- it's my new screensaver.

That cat is a handsome little guy. I also like your charming assortment of doors.

I think the witch has slammed into the pole, Mossie. Women drivers!
Bjd, this is absolute buried treasure for me -- yet another great thread I never saw when I was away.
What a delightful place. Its touristiness is certainly very low key. It strikes me as a place one could imagine living happily, with enough to do & a nearby big city.
Did you have any memorable meals, see any exceptional monuments, or simply enjoy the pretty, very charming setting? I certainly have enjoyed what you show.
And yes ~~ fabulous picture of that cat!

Sorry, Bixa. Only saw your reponse now. There are no exceptional monuments in Szentendre. It's a small place, known for its churches and artiness. This is where we had gulash soup, which was delicious. Here is some Wiki information about the place: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SzentendreAs mentioned in the article, it's mostly known as a day trip destination from Budapest. I see too that there are lots of museums or art galleries.
