I seem to be eating completely the wrong food. This man eats things I have never heard of and a sample menu of the day he has published contains only two items I would eat regularly - avocado and fish. Are the foods he eats just 'fads'? Following the latest fashion? Or is this the food of the future? I just can't picture though Mrs Smith from number 37 popping down to her local supermarket with two kids in tow, trudging down the wet streets in the dark at 5pm as she forgot to buy the cacao nibs for her husband who'll be clocking off in half an hour. And WTF are Emu meatballs? Menu - .....................alkalised water with apple cider vinegar, cacao nibs, emu meatballs, cultured vegetables and a muffin made of coconut, carob, blueberry, goji and stevia.
He also starts the day with a smoothie made of blended alkalised water, organic spirulina, activated almonds, maca, blueberries, stevia, coconut kefir and two organic, free-range eggs.www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/mkr-hosts-nutty-snacks-activate-twitter-torrent-20121105-28t4k.html

Speaking of food of the future, I got nauseous again just the other day when someone on the radio mentioned again the possibility of of growing flesh in vats "and it would solve all of our meat problems."

You're not the only one Mark! I don't know whether to feel sorry for him on this miserable diet or myself for not being on this miserable diet ;D I know almonds are good for you and pick at a few when presented with a dish of nuts but frankly the best tasting ones are cashews and macadamia! Most of the other things he is eating can be taken in capsule form.....and then we can get on with the grilled lobster in a decadent butter sauce

Frankly, whatever Pete Evans eats is fine, because apparently food is his profession and he has nothing better to do -- so there is no reason to pay attention to any of it.
However, I do like to read from time to time items about what ordinary working people eat and how they manage when they make an effort to eat something other than packaged foods.
Yet I totally support packaged, already prepared, just-heat-it-up food in terms of the extra freedom that it has given to so many people who had no free time before. Now if they could only remove all of that unnecessary extra salt and sugar....

Stevia is actually a plant, and a very good sugar substitute for people who have to avoid sugar. It doesn't cause the er... unpleasant side-effects other subtitutes such as maltilol do...
(If vats of flesh grosses you out, how about "anal leakage"...)
Emu meatballs are simply meatballs made from the minced flesh of the Emu, an Australian flightless bird, similar to the Ostrich. People have eaten emu meat in Australia from the times of the original Aborigine peoples, and it is farmed now in several countries. I think there was a kind of investment "bubble" around emu rearing; farmers investing in emu pairs thinking that it would be the "next big thing".
A lot of the other things are supposed "health foods".

(If vats of flesh grosses you out, how about "anal leakage"...) I didn't notice anal leakage on the menu anywhere! However, I deal with it almost every day at the nursing home, and it doesn't bother me at all.

I was referring to the effects of some of the leading non-sugar, non-caloric sweeteners.
Kerouac, I've also worked in a hospital and a hospice for the elderly, and have certainly dealt with that and worse with no complaint. But it isn't something one would deliberately set out to provoke!

I remember when my parents tried paraffin oil as a diet aid -- they quickly stopped!

When we were young if we complained of a stomach ache we soon got a big spoonful of castor oil. That quickly cured us. ;D
