This kind of list is always open to debate. Just the comments of the author about certain details already make me want to contest some of the ratings. World's 10 Best Metro Systems

I agree that some of his quibbles are pretty stupid. He's certainly American where they don't know much about public transport.
We have a two-line metro system in Toulouse, but there are only 2 cars in each train, and lots of bright colours, like yellow, blue, etc. A friend of mine calls it the Playmobile Metro. The station announcements are made in French and Occitan.

I'll be the first to agree that London has a lot of catching up to do on the shiny new investments in Asian cities in particular but "not done too much to it since" [1863] .... ?! Oh purleez.
Glasgow's, which runs rather small orange trains on a circular line, is known as the Clockwork Orange.

Hong Kong's is indeed nice- when I used it 5 years ago.
How about Munich's? A partner ticket is available for upto 5 adults costing only EUR 19.50 including the airport! and cheaper ones for inner zones. Besides, it's reliable, clean etc.

And what about Berlin. There are the U-Bahn - Metro or Underground who is sometimes overground and the S-Bahn, mostly overground and sometimes underground. Always in time, quick, clean without Graffities, indication inside + outside the trains in German and English.

The list was clearly a bunch of crap -- and yet people manage to get these things published!

I disagree with some of them as well and too was going to point out Berlin as well as Shanghai (especially Shanghai is much better than some named) Putting London above Paris in my opinion is also not right (and I love London, don't get me wrong)
AND REALLY??? NYC??? Again - I love NYC and have used the Subway but it's old, confusing and certainly not Top 10... not even top 20....
ok... these are my 5 cents ;-)

I descended the subway steps, and then ran out of the subway(two steps at a time) instead of catching a New York subway train.....I found it scary and not at all like London, Paris, Hong Kong or Singapore.
Oh, I am a sissy! ;D

LOL Tod, that's funny. I agree it can be a little scary - but one thing it ain't and that's easy and convenient. We once wasted a ticket not realizing we took the entrance across the street for the same line (it doesn't let you connect within to the other direction).... at least for the line we were on

Yes, the NYC subway is weird that way -- they have different entrances for different directions in many places ("uptown" "downtown") and if you get it wrong, tough luck!
