Yes, men seem to have the corner on mass shootings. Women who “pack heat” usually do it out of fear for their own safety. And when a woman shoots someone, he usually deserves it.

Whatagain, a sterling example is the Trump sons (the supposedly "adult" ones) holding up a beautiful leopard whom they obviously weren't going to have for supper.
There is also the phenomenon of "canned hunts", marketed under the euphemism adventure tourism, which includes many innocuous things, in which a wealthy white guy travels to a remote area where a "guide" (here, usually an Amerindian or an Inuk) does everything for Mr Bigshot. There are hunts where Mr B goes up in a copter or small plane (piloted by someone else, obviously) and shoots cariboo, moose, polar bear or whatever turns him on. Then the Indigenous guide quarters and dresses the meat, packages it, and the "catch" is flown back with Mr Big.

This comment alone could start an all-out stampede to buy and hoard guns by the 2nd-Ammendmenters or even by fence-sitters: “Take the guns first, go through due process second.”That's pretty much a summation of his whole "leadership" style. And his minions are twitching madly, but seem to be adhering more to their NRA loyalty than to whatever loyalty they might have to the populist pig. They're not even disguising their contempt for him: “We’re not ditching any constitutional protections simply because the last person the president talked to today doesn’t like them,” Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska, said in a statement.Quotes above from this article, which pretty well sums up the sorry state of governance in the US.

I just read that the state of Georgia is taking away tax favours from Delta Airlines, based in Atlanta, because the airline has refused to give any more discounts to NRA members. The governor is angry at Delta, so guess who gets election money from the NRA.

For someone like me who doesn't the Whereabouts it looks like maffia : I get money from someone and I give money that doesn't belong to me to these same guys.
We should boycott Delta for giving rebates to NRA members.

Boycotting airlines is not that easy and the airlines know it. Just a few months ago United was the most hated airline ever because of its scandalous treatment of passengers. In a few days I will be boarding United, as it is my only choice to get where I need to go.
And as far as I've ever been able to understand, the whole political system in the US is wide open to legalized bribery by rich powerful entities which get richer & more powerful because of successful bribery. Then there is the resultant strong-arming which is in the spotlight right now.

You are so right about United.

One of the news comments I heard about the Delta Airlines being pressured by politicians in thrall to the NRA is that those same politicians don't think about the thousands of jobs Delta provides in the Atlanta area. It might come back and bite them in the rear end.

Sick. But I'm favourably impressed by Melania. Melania, get that juicy divorce settlement and leave the bastard; you have plenty of cause. Your home country is lovely now, and so close to Veneto, Austria and the beaches of Croatia. It would be wonderful for Barron to learn other languages.

I see that we have a new shooting in Texas with at least 8 dead. The second amendment continues to spread its values. But I thought Texas was one of the most armed places in the country. Where are all of these people whom the President has said will step in to stop such things?

Just saw that report on the news. How can a country which is not at war have this happening all the time?!
The wet shit in the White House tweeted "God bless all!"

Heard on the news today that more American people have died in mass shootings than American military personnel have died in military operations. I regret I did not catch what time period this statistic covers.

This latest shooting in Texas has me in a major state of dismay and depression, and, anger. Coupled with the media's major focus on the f'n Royal wedding? WTF? ?? More US citizens focused on an event completely out of the realm of reality. I am seriously considering a relocation to Costa Rica and/or Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. (no offense Members of the Commonwealth)

Check out Louisiana gun related deaths per capita.
There's a reason I rarely venture into this thread dearheart.

So, here I am in a country with 34.10 gun related deaths per 100,000, compared to a paltry 11.96 in the United States and 2.83 in France.
Wish me luck.

Sending thoughts & prayers your way. Last night I watched some news footage of the royal wedding. One had a crawler at the bottom showing other news of the day, including yet another high school shooting in the US -- a shooting I've seen mentioned nowhere else on the news today, although the royal wedding is still getting ink.

Guatemala City is perhaps more of a problem but Antigua is full of tourists and Spanish-language schools. I'm sure you'll be fine, Kerouac.
I think I heard something like that too Bixa, but couldn't find it again when I looked for it.
