I'm pretty sure LL Thorn Tree will be back as it was, but with new software installed to dub out the words that they find offensive. I imagine that the mods will have to be more vigilant to regarding general posting that goes on there.

thanks for the warm welcome :-)
if I recall correctly, the only suggestion that was put into practice back then was that one got to choose to have the branch displayed by either 'recently posted' or 'recently replied'... I'm not sure they mean to phase the board out anytime soon, but given the lack of improvments and that they implied changing the (blue) LP-auto-spam-destination-links was too difficult/costly leads me to the assumption that they consider the board archaic and an expense factor in times when literally all the money is put on mobile apps etc.
it's great to see all those features thorntree lacks to be available here, maybe the time has come to change flag - if there only was a way to steer more 'passengers' over here!
p.s. no mail from any mod to me, however I've received dozens of copies of thread subscriptions from December in my in-box instead...

It's always difficult to adjust to a new board, even one as nice as this one. I think we have sort of voluntarily remained small (although we would love good new members to talk more about travel and such) -- at the beginning there were more people online, but many of them were of the YC/WT persuasion whose idea of a good post is something like "I just farted." Very few people were actually kicked out, but the chatterboxes strayed away to another place, which probably was the best thing for them to do.

It's as I thought, back with special software installed... And, I can't log on, apparently my handle there, Kally-annie, had a hyphen in it, and the system is not accepting it. I've had that handle for years now Oh well, I had to create a new handle for thorn tree, KallyAnnie (no hyphen). The Canada branch is up, but no India branch yet. I needed to go in and ask some questions, I guess I'll have to wait.

Well, they claim that the USA thread is back, but my search for Kauai and even Hawaii brought up no hits...

I just made a minor post and was sent to a page of "your post will need to be approved by a moderator." Is this message for everybody or just for the "chosen few"?

I just had a look on TT. First strange thing I saw on W Europe is that all the final posts are dated today, so in fact you don't know when they date from.
"No off-subject posts allowed" -- well, that's a bummer. Those were the most interesting ones. I think if we are going to be limited to telling people how to get to downtown Paris from the airport or asking why they want to go to Monaco, it's going to be pretty dull.

Indeed, Kerouac, but mine got posted after not too much time. Bjd, I agree, but I have a feeling they will have to allow some flexibility, except on topics which brought the forum down. Oh, a user must be 16 to post there...

Yes, unless they decide to lighten up some, I fear that they have done just as much if not more damage than the last reboot. Among other things I noted is that links are disabled (no surprise there) and of course everybody's post count has gone down again -- mine was cut in half, just like last time, but I don't really care about that. I did notice that I am a member since 2000, something which I would never have been able to recall by myself.
We are left with the question of whether or not we want to actively recruit (by PM) any of the members that we know.

Thanks Bjd- I hope so but can't expect it.
I will continue to post normally on TT until somebody contacts me about this, then I'll see what to do.
Meanwhile, I'm wondering where other TTers are- considering the WE branch is (partly) operational.

My gut feeling is that they'll bring back some of the features- including links, signature lines and PMs- but perhaps that will take more time.

For the time being, quite a few of the destination branches are still missing -- E Europe, S America to mention two I noticed. So I guess they are going slowly through everything.
Ansh, maybe some of the W Europe regulars are not aware that TT is up again -- I saw it on here, otherwise I had pretty well stopped looking -- or busy, or else just didn't see anything worth posting or replying to, since there is nothing new on there.

But they couldn't possibly know that, Iain, since they never crawl out of their caves.
I imagine they are bracing themselves for Monday when a lot of people will discover what they have done.

Deyana, have you seen IndiaMike (www.indiamike.com)- a travel forum for India? Thanks for the link, young anshjain. (My gosh are you really only 15?, you're very mature for your age). Actually I am already a member of Indiamike, have been since 2006 I think it is... They are a fantastic bunch of people over there, the information is they give about India is priceless. I hope you will still stick around here even when Thorn Tree is in full swing again, asnshjain.

To be honest, I was never much of a TTer anyway, I posted mostly on the Canada branch, sometimes the UK branch and that was about it. It was all quite slow going in the end. Maybe things will change now? Who knows.
I hadn't been on for ages, until I felt I had to because of a creep/stalker decided to slaunder my name over there. Maybe the mods do have their work cut out for them. Too much shite was going on on there, and that's not what a travel site is supposed to be about.
Come to think about I don't see any reason to return.

ansh, I doubt anyone at LP headquarters really bothers about your age, if any company would enforce this formality strictly, e.g. facebook would probably quickly loose a couple of million users... and I guess that if you happen to bother the mods, they'll zap you regardless whether you already shave or not! btw, 13-97=16, so your handle looks sufficently mature by now.
well, in spite of LP being back on, I guess I'll linger around here for a bit longer - hopefully someone will pass by on the Germany subbranch within the next couple of weeks ;-)

Did they give a reason why they did that, anshjain? I just tried again with my old handle with the hyphen and it let me log in! Now I'm Kally-annie and KallyAnnie.
