They probably just filtered all of the birthdates the people had entered when they registered. Probably took about 2 seconds. Speaking of two seconds, I just made a small flurry of replies to some posts to try to show that there are still a few survivors... and then I made a new post which, in spite of the 'moderation' message, appeared immediately. So either they are finally opening the floodgates or they have approved a few of us for immediate posting based on our history. Sorry, I know this does not solve your problem, Ansh!

Hey, no problem Kerouac. Happy that TT seems to be loosening its grip though.
Guess somebody might notice my absence, I used to be quite ubiquitous!

yes, kerouac's explanation is indeed most likely (I'm notoriously bad with numbers, I've already forgotten whether I entered my correct birthday when registering with APIAS - let alone years ago for LP...)
anyway, they let pass a small hint on the Turkey thread - yet all these reloaded threads from last autumn drive me crazy, the board currently isn't a very stimulating place for regulars (though some seem immune)!

Hi, can't find that Turkey thread- but I was sure it was someplace there?

I don't know what they are doing on TT -- I am being moderated for posting on the weather thread.
And as I scrolled down, there were posts for October being dated today. And all the comments on those previous threads like "get a guide book" seem to have been removed.

The Mexico branch is gone. Now travelers wanting anything other than all-inclusives & "beach chilling" have nowhere to turn for advice. I attempted to post in the USA board. My first attempt, which included a helpful link, was rejected. I removed the link in my second attempt, but that poor Brit will remain without the benefit of my golden words ~~

Odd -- I expected both of my links to be rejected and they were both accepted -- including a link for a thread here!
Different strokes for different mods, I imagine.

bixaorellana, that's strange. Maybe if you try removing the "~"?
Anyways, hope these anomalies are settled. The Tree is clearly not what it was.

I think they read it as advertising, i.e., spam. Can you just see the new style of posting: Hi, I'll be in Megalopolis for three days over Easter, staying with friends on the north side of town. Can you recommend a great restaurant so I can take them out for gala meal. They love Thai, Northern Italian, but are very flexible as long as it's good food. answer: No, I cannot.

this is driving me nuts as well. maybe anyone can help? I'm trying topost the following: "cheers jack, not familiar with the Dutch public transport, but consider looking into the Dagkart offer by NS and Blokker, too - though obviously you'll either need a forwarding address in the Netherlands or you'll have to track down a Blokker once you're over there, dunno whether that's worth the hassle. as you'll know, there's a (costlier) Terravision bus Eindhoven-Amsterdam as well. regards nautiker I would have loved to post the link but this seems to be no longer permitted on here for whatever reason, so google 'blokker', the offer should be on the main page. p.s. I thought you'd be playing in Eindhoven?" obviously, this was rejected as 'You have attempted to post content not permitted on Thorn Tree' - but what? I've already deleted the link, attempted with deleting the comapnies' names, attempted with deleting any special characters, capitals etc. ... do I have to keep guessing what was not permitted or am I just 'blacklisted' for any reply on that thread now? who's more paranoid- me or them? @ansh, I was referring to this thread: www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2287822&messageID=20638050#20638050(and yes, I promise to learn about linking links correctly, soon)

Maybe it has something to do with transportation companies...? I suppose they might do quite a bit of clandestine advertising on travel boards. I didn't think they were going to allow any links at all at first, but I tested them with this one: And when I saw that it was approved, I got bolder and tried this, which was also approved to my astonishment: My next attempt will by an embedded fancy link -- but even before this latest change, I think I had annoyed them and they seemed to have disabled that function for me.

in my subsequent message originally I had the word 'offer', yet the message only got through once I deleted it - however I had tried the same with my message from above before as well: without success. fwoggie meanwhile wrote a post with four different links and not a hint he had trouble.
a backpacker's board where words like 'offer', 'cheap' and 'deal' raise red flags? it will be difficult circumnavigating this :-(
p.s. meanwhile, I notice they're reinstalling (some?) old threads crippled, e.g. there was one about the Parasoles in Sevilla which I had contributed to: first only three replies were restored, then a fourth by bjd was added - several others, including mine (which was harmless and on-topic), keep missing. wonder whether they'll return at a later stage or have just been cropped because it was too much hassle?

Thanks, Nautiker! Guess it's just loosening it up.
I wonder if it's possible to re-activate a terminated profile. Cheers

'Guess it's just loosening it up.'
well, from experience I can tell you that guesswork has its flaws - about an hour ago I merely added to that thread (paraphrased): 'yep, it's because of his age. wonder whether he'll be able to get his old profile back', seems the afternoon shift considered this offensive...

Time for me too to swallow my words. But seriously, this is crazy. Why, oh, why would that be considered offensive?? Thanks again though.

Hmmm, I see that nutrax has dropped in for a visit here. Nautiker is Nutrax? (I now see that Nautiker is not Nutrax, but welcome anyway, Nautiker.) I would love to have Nutrax here. Nutrax, te quiero mucho. It seems to me that LP is rapidly destroying its loyal member base by such extreme moderation and general fkckupedness. Bixa, do you mean that there will be no Mexico branch on TT, or that it isn't yet restored?

I just went on TT and noticed that the number of posts under each available branch is tiny! How much did they get rid of? 37 for Central Asia, 654 for W Europe!

I think they will gradually be adding older posts back to the archive. Hope so, at least.

I imagine they will also have the archived section under the name they used before "Ye Olde Thorne Tree."

Why would anyone bother with a forum so tightly moderated? Nostalgia? I don't get it. I detest overmoderated sites where everyone is tiptoeing around on eggshells, the only moderators who'll play by those rules are sociopaths and plain old nut cases. Fuck that shit

Agree fumo. Where's the 'like' button? ;D
A forum where you feel like you have to tip-toe around the mods, their favorites, or a hierarchy that might exist just doesn't work for very long. It becomes too enclosed and eventually too boring and difficult to bother with.

Fumobici, sometimes people participate in overmoderated forums because they are the best source of the information they are seeking. I do sometimes post at Chowhound, which is ridiculously overmoderated.
Though certain fora at TT had the opposite problem... Rudeness was the watchword.

Bixa, do you mean that there will be no Mexico branch on TT, or that it isn't yet restored? Search me, DonC. All I know is that it ain't there no more. Why would anyone bother with a forum so tightly moderated? Nostalgia? I don't get it. I detest overmoderated sites where everyone is tiptoeing around on eggshells, the only moderators who'll play by those rules are sociopaths and plain old nut cases. Fuck that shit I suspect that TT is not even using human moderators, but some kind of program that scans for things such as links (bad), business names (bad), words such as "offer" or "economical" (bad), or birthdays after a certain date (bad). That doesn't explain how Kerouac's links got through. However, if their automated moderating system works as well as their other automated functions, yes, yes it does.

'I suspect that TT is not even using human moderators, but some kind of program'
or likely a mix: some posts of mine were rejected instantly ('inappropriate content' = keywords?), others went on to be vetted, from which some vanished completely, others just went through.
I found it interesting when sfgirl mentioned 'I did note that our posts are vetted before being posted --or my first one was--haven't looked at any others.' - does she imply her subsequent messages just went through? carte blanche? I wanted to ask her, alas my query never made it on that thread...
