indeed, and though I thought I had worked the big scheme out (more delays = more contributions), yesterday the mods decided to leave a reply of mine in limbo, as they obviously deemed there were reasonably similar responses already queuing ahead of mine. not tragic, yet not very courteous either - I refrain from 'easy' topics for now. They must have had to hire many more mods on TT in order to do all this surely? Anyhow, I'm kind of glad that TT is messing around so much, that means we get to have more posters on here. Nice to have you on here, nautiker

I tried to mention Ansh in a post again today, but it was not approved.

Same thing happened to Artemis. Poor Ansh, he seems to have become a persona non grata because he isn't 16 yet.

Hi there -- the TT is so slow that you'll have plenty of time to look around!

Perhaps BBC could SELL YC and WT to the highest bidder and become a travel forum again. Wishful thinking.

You can start by filling the Benelux branch with reports!

We went to Antwerp in the mid-1990s and it didn't have all those bike paths then. We certainly could do with something like that here in Toulouse. In our suburb right now, they are redoing the main road through the centre to make a dedicated bus lane, but since there is very little space, they also want to put in trees, a sidewalk, parking for cars because that's where all the shops are, so they wil just paint a little band for cyclists between where cars park and the bus lane. Sorry -that belongs on the cycling in the city thread.

glad to see you here, artemis!
thanks for the warm welcome, deyana!
just checked with TT and am still puzzled as how the moderation actually works. seems mods have enough time to re-check the branches in order to randomly lock topics they deem trite - thus cutting the slightest chance of exchange between regulars. I really wonder whether that's what they want to succeed at...

So it looks like the mods are locking threads now- all innocent threads. Of course, one could say that deleting them is going too far, but locking them is also completely unnecessary. Artemis, I like the way you argued on the Community FAQs branch. My guess is that such overmoderation will only last till the other branches are back up, when the frequency of new posts will be far too high to carry out this system efficiently (yeah, like they're doing a good job even now) and this system would be deserted, some trust may also be restored by then regarding the content.

Hmmmm ~~ looks as though "Wikivoyage" chose the right moment to pounce launch. So what is Any Port in a Storm? Are we "a travel essay anthology"? Here's hoping that in the immediate future we can be that and also a quick-response travel advice site. In any event, Wikipedia's site seems poised to fill the gap created by TT's self-destructive policy decisions. www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2414212,00.asp

Hello old and new posters here, many familar to me (..) I hope you're all doing fine. W.Jack, Did you trip to the NL work out conveniently without basic and necessary info from Nautiker? And what about your gigs? Thanks for guiding me to this thread. Reading up former postings later.
My experiences on TT: Three days ago a slightly 'critical' posting didn't come through. Today postings appeared without moderating. But probably getting overconfident I happened to ask why we(I) missed some posters (I mentioned Nautiker, artemis and Wat. J., though I'm also surprised about aribo) It apperader in the Forum and 1minute later it had vanished. Censorship afterwards, I think in China it's gonna be pratice a bit already.
Anyway, the advert for the speed skating race in Friesland (tomorrow, 15/1) in the Snow posting has been accepted.
Confusing times.
Wish all of you a happy new year and nice, critical, informative postings, then and when zested with some irony.
Cheers, A.

Yes, just about nobody has been allowed to breathe a word of the existence of any other TT member in any post over there -- it either never appears or is removed. Strange way to run a forum if it is supposed be an exchange of ideas! Feel free to wander around our little refuge, arizona.

lagatta, nice link about Antwerp bicycle-structure, time to have a (new) check. BTW. Antwerpen also has the pretty unique cyclist (and pedestrian) St. Anna tunnel under the Schelde.

Hi Arie, nice to see you've also found this refuge Yes the St Anna tunnel in Antwerp is special. Did you use the old and wonderful escalators and not the elevator?

#artemis: the escalators and I survived fear for heights - being as deep as the London tube station monument. # hi ansh, your fault some of my postings didn't make it on TT. In a desperate try I packed my demanding posting in snowflakes: 1 cm in Netherlands and ending: no snow in Bangalore. But the most melted down apparently. The's an interesting series about India on Dutch TV now, made by a Dutch team. One of the sessions about Bangalore, the wonderful world of the callcenters. Here it is. programma.vpro.nl/vanbihartotbangalore/afleveringen/afl-4-de-kraamkamer-van-de-wereld.html

cheers arie, good to see you here!
kind of you to inquire about me, yet as you might have spotted on the 'snow' thread, it's my decision to limit my time at LP until things look brighter - however I'll drop by occasionally to check whether there's been any progress. I really do wonder about some familiar names like aribo missing, too (maybe he's smart enough for a cold turkey?). would have thought more of the EE regulars might hang out on WE for the time being as well. on the other hand, there seem to be a couple of fresh faces - they picked an odd time...
IMO it's most stupid of TT cracking down on smalltalk currently with such rigidity, especially considering the PM system being down - we may not have been that closely-knit, but I'm no free workforce, either. I'm really curious what shape TT will have been cropped to in a couple of weeks!
arie, if I recall correctly, jack returns home today, so probably there'll be a message tonight...
jack, hope all went fine for you. I noticed there's a sports branch on the 'Back Pages' section of this board - since we're almost halfways down the road to Cheltenham, maybe we should start a thread over there? I'll try to get it started soon, otherwise you go ahead ;-)

I too wondered where Aribo is -- maybe he is away for work?
I agree it's stupid to cut out the small talk. That's what made W Europe branch pleasant. Not to mention the others I hung around on.
