Cheers, Bix.
I've kicked off that Czech thread now with a few of my archived TT reports.
If I manage to retrieve my Russian ones, I'll be sure to post them here as well...

thank for sharing the news, nutrax, seems with LP it's like with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: the official notification can be found in a locked wardrobe in a disused washroom in the unlit cellar - at least I didn't expect to need checking regularly the community-branch for updates on pms, what's wrong with their announcement system (those messages below one's 'recent threads'-list)? they usually catch ones pretty quickly. some regulars claim to have been notified by email - so far none for me, not even in the spam-folder... p.s. jack, looking forward to your thread - werde ihn mir in Ruhe zu Gemüte führen. meanwhile, I finally got that other thread started, would enjoy your views: www.anyportinastorm.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=sports&thread=6445&page=1#159632

Cheer up, nautiker. I didn't get any personal notification either.
I have just noticed a way to send a post for immediate notification -- address it to a previous poster on the thread. Just mentioned that I was being sarcastic about the Spanish economic problems not having made the news in the UK and the post went for moderation.
They are certainly doing a good job demolishing the chit-chat aspect of TT. Fools.

They are doing indeed a good job, the site has a moment in this moment.

Is somebody in here who can confirm that the TT forum has changed in the past hour or is it only me?

I can confirm that something is screwed up. I seem to be signed in but can't post & my settings have been changed. I wanted to post on the "report bugs" thread but don't have a box to post in.

I just went to TT. No recent messages, no answer box. But then I tried to answer a question on SiT, hit the green "reply to this post" arrow and got the big advanced editing reply box. The answer posted immediately and suddenly the recent posts and the usual reply box appeared.

Ah...TT and its usual bugs. These things used to occur fairly frequently with me, before the shutdown.

Have you been able to log in and recover your PMs, Ansh?

|
Post by anshjain97 on Mar 13, 2013 14:10:39 GMT
I can't log in at all..."Your account has been terminated"
But it seems PMs are till mid April; I can log back on by early Apr. However, only if my account can be re-activated again...
Otherwise, I lose them all...I do/did have a fair amount.
Did you get all yours back? Is it impossible to send any more?
Which forum does not have a PM facility?? I'm sure all are worried about spam- and they manage.

I think the deadline is April 12th. Yes, it's impossible to send any. I just found mine the way they were -- I started sorting and will copy paste mine into a document in my computer and just delete them from TT. Most were just off the record conversation with various people. Plus an applecake recipe from Nautiker.

Did it seem like the mods deleted any PMs?
Well, that gives me 5 days to get my PMs. If (and a big if) I get my old account back.
But how can PMs be copied elsewhere?
Meanwhile, how about some apple cake? One slice please?

But how can PMs be copied elsewhere?
Open a Word file (or whatever you use to write a document), then copy and paste the PMs you want to keep from the inbox. Just keep both windows open at the same time on your screen.
I don't think the Mods deleted anything but then again, I didn't use PMs all that much and used to delete most of them as I went.

I just copied 27 pages on Word, very tedious work, but I really wanted to save one series of correspondence from.... 7 years ago.

Ok, Word it is- although I thought I might just take a picture of the PM on the screen and store it.

Word is much better than a screen shot, because the contents can be shortened or corrected -- not everything is worth saving in a PM, even an important one.

I got an e-mail just now regarding TT's message archive and about the lack of any PM facility hereafter.
Are they sending these selectively??

I just received one -- it's a form letter with a link to the PMs.

The answer posted immediately and suddenly the recent posts and the usual reply box appeared. Still not fixed, but if you double-click the 'Watch' button in the top left-hand corner of the TT page, then your posting history is restored on the right-hand side, as per old... According to 'Community FAQs', they are working on this at the moment...

I got my form letter. I have very few PMs but I think I have one from tony_b and I'd want to save that for old times sake.

Still haven't heard from them. I noticed that they restored the little PM envelope on the main screen, though.

I'd never heard of this site until this thread appeared. It seems to generate a lot of angst. I understand thorn trees burn well, isn't it time for a good fire to warm us all up

I got my personal notification by now, too, and saw they put up a sticky on each branch either - well, there might be some logic behind the order in which they're doing things, however it remains unclear to me. in any case, I had already saved bjd's apple-pie recipe to the hdd back then, which perhaps is the most valuable treasure my archive holds apart from some chitchat with jack - come on, mossie, this has to be tongue-so-firmly-in-cheek-it's-sticking-out-already... personally, I'd replace 'angst' with 'emotion', though...

So now we wait to see what actual plans the new owner has... Easter is coming....is it too late to give up following Thorn Tree for Lent? (not that I'd be sacrificing much...)
