I'm so happy for them all -- it's just so wonderful. The only one whose name I have seen before is Yersinia.

I just made an inappropriate post on that thread. I wonder how long it will last.

Exactly- how many are actually saying the truth?
BTW- how did so many staff handles mushroom in response to that post? Do staff members continuously wade through the forum for a post like this before signing up and commenting? Maybe that explains how TT has so many unregistered 'Guests' online all the time.

Now I'm getting the age-old message on TT: Site is having a moment.

Many, many, many years ago (when Roman still ran the store), I went to an LP event in Oakland. I got to talking to one of their editors. He told me that they did sometimes wade through the forum, looking for ideas & trends to help with new books & revising old ones. He called it a "great resource."
Don't know if that's what happens now, but for what it's worth...

I think they are now wading into quicksand.

Anyway, now that LP has sunk back into its old routines, all of the non travel branches are back to the usual blabber of little interest.

TT's apparently moving to a new server. Let's see how that goes.
On a sticky in every branch:

Ah, interesting...! Are they downgrading due to the lesser activity or have they been hoodwinked into a new "innovation" that everybody will probably hate?

We'll see.
Oddly enough, I was moderated yesterday for the first time in ages for a post on Get Stuffed. They let it through after a while, but I really don't see why it was blocked in the first place.

TT is again down for maintenance (server change), but at least this time, it was announced in advance. However, it's already running a little longer than anticipated.

Now it's back on line, but faltering. For example, I can sign in when using Safari, but not Chrome. However, either browser shows "My Recent Threads".
I can try to post, but when I submit the message, it goes 'round to the log in page.
On top of all this, it's glacially slow, although that might be a local network (at this end) problem.
This may take a while to fix.

It's not just your problem, Don Cuevas. I just logged on and it's really slow. I don't know if it's the new server or whether all the members deprived of TT for a day are on at the same time, slowing it all down.

That would be really sad, if so many members feel "deprived" of this sad shell of a website.

That link to TT in 1996 is really fascinating -- other than the fact that people posted their names and email addresses, the same stupid questions came up --" what are the must-sees?, does anyone know anything about Finland?where should I go bike touring?"etc. And that was just on the Europe branch.

They say that this closure is due to server change but I wonder if that is the true reason...did they get another complaint about something inappropriate on the forum?

I think it may have been quite the opposite -- somebody trying to make a bit of money in Kentucky may have wondered why internet traffic on the site had gone down more than 50%, probably at the same time that the deal was being negotiated.

Still not working...have the servers been set to a date back in time?? Because I made another account by which I asked them to restore my normal one a month ago...and apparently that account's registration isn't over...
