I just loved Thunderbirds, must be the inner child, or perhaps I never grew up ;D. There is no answer to that My eldest boy used to hide behind the sofa when the oddball things appeared on Dr Who

I am a huge Dr. Who fan but I must admit that I have only been faithful since the reboot of the series. I remember seeing various episodes in olden times as a child, in black and white, and the only thing that remains in my mind are the daleks rolling around screaming "exterminate, exterminate!" -- no memory of any plot at all. It was quite scary because they seemed invulnerable. I have not seen any of the current season because I am waiting for it to be available on DVD. I know that it is the end of the Ponds, and that will be tragic for me.
Thunderbirds was always great and really what made it so special is that it was great in spite of all of the wires and cheesy scale model rockets and stuff. I think that what really made it work for children is that when we played with things, we didn't care at all if they were to scale or not or that our figurines were cheap plastic -- this seemed to be a programme that actually understood that our own fantasy worlds could be made out of anything.

Oh ~~ this is cooolisimo! I am so jealous. If you post that picture, I promise I won't look at it. Trust me. So, big questions: Will you be redocorating your house? Did the other daleks recognize you? pee ess ~ the expression on that little girl in the first photo is too adorable -- so excited.

It was a nice way to spend a Sunday morning...and it was lovely to see families there..the Mums, Dads and even Grandparents just as excited about seeing stuff as the children! We went to a show in the Patrick Moore Planetarium that was jolly good. Bixa darling...post the photo? hhhmmmm....nope. I already have loads of Dr Who paraphernalia around the house,,,I have Daleks in the china cabinet, sonic screwdrivers on the bookcase and a TARDIS (that is actually small on the inside and the outside) on a shelf.... The actors/volunteers who were dressed up as the Dr Who monsters were interacting with the public all day...they were brilliant, posing and chatting in character...I told the blue dalek that he was beautiful and he said ' THANK-YOU'...I was chased by a man with a pig's head (you can see in the photo that he's seen me and is getting ready!) and the puppet man scared me to death by stopping in front of me...cocking his head on one side and raising his gun!

I would absolutely love to go to one of the Dr. Who concerts at the Royal Albert Hall some day. The total look of wonder/fascination/fear/delight on the faces of the children is incredible.

Oh how nifty that the characters interacted with the public. Daleks are totally admirable in every way.

Great fun Cheery. This looks especially good as it is so interactive. I was a little disappointed by the Dr Who exhibition at Cardiff a few years ago due to the lack of interaction.
I was and continue to be a great fan of Dr Who but also of Blake's 7 . Was there any info about/ reference to Terry Nation ?

I still watch The Thunderbirds since it's on the French sci-fi channel several times a week, except here it's called Les Sentinelles de l'Air and it's dubbed in French. That show works in any language. Looks like it was great fun cheery!

Well, you do know that those little marionnettes are not really talking, I hope. Even in English, the dialogue is dubbed.

Those marionettes were able to fly planes and rocket ships so no doubt they had the ability to talk.

People who love science fiction are blessed with not only childlike wonder, but the ability to imagine the future and its infinite possibilities. Cheery is one of those exceptional people!

To celebrate my return to Paris today while proving to my mother that I had not forgotten her during my trip, I spent more than 3 hours at the nursing home today -- watching Dr. Who while she circled around the room in front of the screen. It was way back around the Agatha Christie episode, which was lovely of course, and then the creepy empty 'library' planet.

Anybody else excited at the prospect of Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor? he'll have to rein in his language if his previous role on In The Thick Of It is anything to go by (not for the faint hearted...a satirical poke at British politics.....Capaldi plays a vile spin doctor with a mouth like a sewer...) but he has said that he won't be swearing in the new role..
The announcement of who would be taking over the role when Matt Smith leaves in December was a big deal here in the UK as there are millions of fans....maybe having a prime time reveal was a tad over the top but we all watched it anyway....forgive the gushing Zoe Ball, the interviewer...she's a fan too....

I had never heard of him when I read the news and was a bit disappointed that he was so "old" but now that I see him, he looks fine.
Is this the first time that the person playing the doctor actually had already appeared in another role in a past episode?
It was also nice to see Matt Smith with a decent haircut at last in that clip.

In my youth I saw just the tiniest bits and pieces of Dr. Who on American television and the only thing that remained in my memory were the Daleks. It's interesting to see that it is basically the Daleks that have changed the least over the years.

Thanks for the link, lugg. I have just re-lived many memories from the Time Lords of the past. I still have a crush on Tom Baker...he could park his Tardis in my driveway any night!
I always liked the way The Doctor was in a permanent state of chaos and confusion, just keeping his head above water. It contrasted with the "cool" US heroes who (in this genre) were in control of the situations and knew what to do.
The ABC (Oz version of BBC) have set up an extra broadcast channel for the weekend to show only Dr Who material, culminating in the special edition. The show has thousands of followers here, general consensus is that a non-Caucasian should get the gig next. What do others think?
