I wanted to like the Judy Collins version but found it a bit flat even though she has a lovely voice.

I know what you mean, Mick. I liked the melancholy pace of her version, but when it gets to parts like "there is no one who compares with you", the tone is no longer appropriate.
"Your Mother Should Know" is a great choice for this topic, plus it's a great song I'd almost forgotten about.

Good Luck Charm is excellent! Never heard of him though.
Anybody listen to Louis Armstrong? I think it’s a lovely version.

That is a lovely Louis Armstrong recording, Mick. And Louis is obviously one of the musicians Stoneking is channeling, along with many greats from the Mississippi delta. His accent fooled me, as he sounds like a black person from my part of the world, but he is Australian! Look him up on youtube ~ www.youtube.com/results?search_query=c.w.+stoneking

Here is another horrible song, one which everyone else seems to love since it's been covered by so many artists. It has that dreary written-as-movie-theme air to it, as indeed it was the theme to The Sandpipers. Here it is in more palatable form, as an instrumental without the excruciating lyrics ~
