Istrouma -- unincorporated community in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, it is the area where French explorers saw large reddened poles erected by Indians with fish and bear heads attached in sacrifice. Istrouma is derived from the Choctaw words 'ita humma', meaning 'red pole', and Baton Rouge means the same in French.
