Reinjured knee yesterday, was feeling better but knew it was only a matter of being knocked off balance to go out again, and it did. Could feel it tear again, previous tear only one month ago(2/9). Am scheduling MRI today to see extent of damage. I was putting this off with the hopes of dodging surgery but after last pm am resigned to it. I can't live like this and torn cartilage does not heal itself. So,I'm asking what you know about orthoscopic surgery for this type of injury? Rehab time frame etc. Thanks.

Funny things are happening to posts and PM's,full moon perhaps? I can't sit for very long at the PC, so I'll be on and off a bunch. Maybe the fairies will buy me a laptop,we certainly can't afford it with me not working and who knows when will be able. I'm thoroughly depressed, maybe I'll check into K2's Psych. thread.

OK I post here again what I've tried to pm you: It's not a big deal really. Don't worry ! It's one of those operations you go in and out either the same day or the next. Rehab time is probably a lot shorter than waiting for it to heal (which it wouldn't, damaged meniscus doesn't heal) You will have to re-mobilise your knee after the surgery but it doesn't take that long really. You might need crutches for a week at the most and you'll be back to 100% within 2 months. Really, don't worry !! I tell you now my knee story: 5 years ago I stumbled over a stone wall and ruptured my crucial ligament, side ligament, damaged the capsule and meniscus. I had surgery and stayed in hospital 6 days. After that I had to start remobilising my knee and had a lot of physio. After 4 weeks on crutches, I was allowed to put full weight on my knee again (still on crutches though) and do normal walking movement. The first step--- and BANG ! A sharp pain in the knee, it felt like it was blocked for a second. It was hard to describe but it just felt WRONG ! Physio told me I just needed to do more muscle training, doc told me to be patient. After another 4 weeks I was able to walk without crutches but whenever I walked a normal step (propperly stretching leg before bending it again) it blocked again and again and again, I was about to go mad and nobody believed me that there was something wrong. After 6 months!! I insisted in having an MRI where they found a cherry size lump of scare tissue on the new crucial ligament. -> That bloody thing damaged my meniscus again, no wonder every step really hurt ! You would not believe how much I was looking forward to go and have surgery again, finally a end of my suffering was in sight. Second surgery, fixing meniscus and removing lump: Day one go in, have surgery, sleep, throw up from morphine sleep, stay overnight. Day two, they wanted to send me home but my blood pressure was so low that I wasn't able to go to the toilet on my own and therefore I stayed another night. Then I was sent home. Felt good, only a little bit of pain, nothing bad. Everyday a bit better, knee a bit swollen but no blocking anymore. 5 days after surgery I went to the doc who pulled threads out and told me that I don't needed the crutches anymore. Then it just improved daily and after about 6 weeks I felt perfectly well again.

Had MRI,was envisioning some sarcophogus like tunnel, more like a bad Woody Allen movie, they offered music and valium. I declined both. Anyway, awaiting results with hopes of orthoscopic surgery being my ticket back to the land of the active. Am going nuts...

Thanks Guru HT.,you have been so incredibly helpful during this ordeal. I met someone else last p.m. who had the same surgery on both knees and he expressed that he wished he had had my surgeon do both (had one done by my Dr.) Palesa ,am having arthroscopic surgery on bum left knee tomorrow a.m.

Good luck Casimira. I had half of the right knee cartilage removed a year ago. I fell down a mountain when I was trekking. Anyway I'm so pleased I had the surgery. I'm back on form now. It might hurt for a few days....that's all. Tell us how you go.

No big deal, Casimira, so I don't even need to wish you good luck. But I do know from other people that convalescence can sometimes be a long process. More time for you on the internet! Yay for us!

Knee is good,a liitle sore, not much pain at all. Haven't had to take any of the heavy duty prescribed pain stuff, just over the counter. Am doing 40 leg lifts 3x day and then ice. Can't bathe till tomorrow, that's about the worst part. Thanks for asking.
