And so Alex Ferguson finally bows out...
No matter what you think of him, he leaves as the most successful manager of the 'Premiership' era and arguably the greatest ever in the British game...
Hard to know what the future now holds for Man U but there are some straws in the wind, particularly the news that Rooney asked for a transfer and was declined...which means the new man has been bowled a curved ball straight away, having to deal with a messy situation, not of his making...and with the former boss sitting in the boardroom, awaiting the resolution of this thorny issue - not the most comfortable of scenarios for a new manager trying to bed himself down at the club...
I've always been surprised at the way Ferguson handled this player and issue, as Rooney was a declining asset when he pulled that stunt and ended up being appeased rather than being shoved out the side door...possibly the spectre of the player going across the city, rather than south or abroad blurred AF's objectivity and focus on this one...the body language between the 2 of them - at the presentation today - was interesting, to say the least...
Also unfortunate that despite the presence of other Utd captains, such as Bruce, Robson, Schmeichel, Gary Neville, etc, there was no place for Roy Keane, probably the one player who most personified the values of the whole Ferguson era on the pitch...no doubt Roy decided to give the whole thing a wide berth...
But Fergie will be missed, that's for sure...it's going to be a lot more bland without him...
