Ansh, I think the reasons for the lack of seating in train stations are that people are not intended to spend hours there. You don't have to go through security and wait for hours for a connection, like in an airport. Furthermore, trains stations are always central in cities, so you can just go wander around outside or go to a café.
Last, they don't want homeless people or bums hanging around in train stations -- it makes "normal" passengers uncomfortable. Witness the number of posts on TT or other travel forums about "is it safe at the train station?"

anshjain97, would you believe I have friends in Simbach? I haven't been there though.
I've had rather a série noire with respect to that part of the world, as a friend died in Vienna, and not very long later, one of the Simbach friends died. Both deaths were rather sudden (though Vienna friend smoked and drank very heavily, sadly, after returning to his city of origin after a career in Toronto). These people were both considerably older than you, but not frail or really elderly.
So I had been planning to do about your trip, from Munich, where I also know people, via Simbach and surrounding reason (hey, Pope Benedict and Adolf Hitler both hailed from the area, so I imagined a dark pit of reaction) then on to Vienna from Braunau, Austria (Hitlertown).
Hitler's birthplace had become a sheltered workshop for intellectually-disabled people, as a good social use for the building (which is too old a house in the historic centre to tear down) while thumbing a nose posthumously at the Führer.

Cheers, Lagatta. There are actually 2 towns names Simbach- the one where I went was around 20km from Landu a.d. Isar (on the river Isar), an another Simbach an Inn (on the river Inn).

Thanks Ansh for your reports. Munich looks to be a good place to spend a day or so.
off topic - The plaque you posted set off some memories for me -Years ago my Dad had a Messerschmitt ( a Bubble car) when I was a toddler, I think I can remember it but it maybe just the photos of it that I recall. known as the bubble car and built when the factory could not produce planes for a time. I must try to scan the photo some time.

Cheers Lugg. Actually, there's so much more around Munich which I could not see- such as the tech museum called Deutsches Museum, the famous beer hall called Hofbrauhaus, a palace called Schloss Nymphenburg... Just checked the bubble car on Wikipedia. Looks interesting.
