It is really very very different from those days. I took the train a number of times and was amazed by all of the WW2 ruins along the way in Belgium. And outside of the tourist centre, a lot of the city was really ugly and rundown (actually, that's not too different!). Some of the awful high rises like the Tour Martini have been torn down, but I'm not sure if it had even been built in 1967. amendment: the Tour Martini was actually built in 1958.

In Bruxelles, but quite off beaten paths. Between Churchill lane and Brugmann lane, you have a few nice houses in the neighbourhood. Municipality is called Uccle. Probably thexmist expensive if Bxl. I parked un front if the romanian embassy. The house is twice as large in width. Quite nice,ni ? Rue Edith Cavell, after the british nurse killed by Germans in WW1. also the name of the hospital i had an appointment at. Turning into rue Moliere, considered as one of the poshest in Bxl. I would like to be inside and look through the stained glass. There was and is still money there. Could be located in Paris. More like flemish style. The square here us ine if my favorites and is full of budgies. Didn't see any today. Stoey gies that the birds escaped but stayed here. Been nesting since decades now. I dintknow why it looks like that. I never took the time to get jnfo on this building, on a corner of the bous de la Cambre.

Consular districts in national capitals are always fun to poke around. The neighborhoods are posh and primped, with interesting architecture, and are somewhat similar whether in Knightsbridge or Embassy Row in Washington DC, or almost any Western capitol. I like to see how many flags I can spot just bumping around.

I have seen those areas but mostly just driven past. I always wanted to stop, but us foreigners never know where we can stop or even exactly where we are.
