Hwinpp (Henning Wessel) left us on September 13th, 2012.
A little belatedly, I would like to bring up once again the video that I made with some of the photos that he posted here.

I will readily admit that I did not watch it again dry-eyed. Henning was an absolute treasure of a man.

Thank you K2, your video is a fitting tribute.
I did not know him well as I only started posting in March 12 but I really enjoyed reading his posts and still now I go back to search out his posts on here. I have many favourites especially those that described his travels with his Mum and his , of course , wonderful descriptions and pictures of Asian food.
And I thought him wonderful too ... not least , because he was one of the first to welcome and encourage me to post here.

I loved reading what you posted Lugg, as it was so typical of HW. Kind, generous, supportive with a great sense of humor. I didn't watch the video again, but, will in due time. I thought about him while in NY as I would always send him a postcard from there at his request.... He never received a one despite umpteen tries, and, it became an ongoing personal joke between us. I miss him still and often wonder how his partner is doing. She must really miss him as he adored her and would always mention her in our correspondences. I wish I could comfort her somehow.

I was not fortunate enough to know hwinpp but your lovely video, kerouac, has brought back memories of his country.
He has captured the real picture of Cambodia outside the tourist track...white oxen pulling carts, brown houses with blue doors and shutters and the constant relationship the people have with their rivers and lakes.
Thanks for compiling this video and re-posting it. It is a fitting way to honour such a gentle man.

Such a nice tribute for such a great man.
His presence on here is still very much missed and will continue to be so.

I envy you longtime AnyPort members who have such fond memories of hwinpp. I only had the privilege of "knowing" him during his last few months. Reading his old threads is both instructive and enlightening. I get the feeling of someone who had a great sense of humor and genuine personal warmth.

Kerouac, it's so nice to see this thread in memory of Henning a year after he has passed away. Browsing through his stories and seeing the photos bring back fond memories of adventurous trips we made together.

I just watched the video again, perhaps for the 20th time, and I think that Henning was by far our best photographer of "daily life."

I have a few photos here that were made during our trips to Cambodia over the years. This one was taken in 2008. As you know, Henning used to work in the tourist industry and was invited to all kinds of functions with buffets and entertainment by travelling companies. Sometimes we'd be there and he would take us along. Siem Reap, Apsaras: We visited Henning for Christmas and New Year 2009/2010 to escape the winter in Europe - just for 12 days but it was certainly worth it. At Henning's favourite steam boat restaurant in Phnom Penh with Henning's nephew (my son): Same trip going marketing, I was especially interested in the Cambodian pepper corns which were dirt cheap and very good as presents etc.: Kampot "Les Manguieres" on our trip in the summer of 2011. Kampot is famous for its pepper: We visited a Kroma factory: Here is Henning's sending off in the boat with priests in the front. Unfortunately they are not in the picture and just now I discovered that the photos I made on the boat are lost. I only have those that people or I myself posted or sent me And this finally is just off the place where Henning's ashes were scattered. It is the meeting place of 4 arms / rivers, 2 of which are the Mekong and Tonle Sap. I only wish those machines hadn't found their way into the picture Henning, third row middle with his cousins and siblings

This is treasure, Colonistin -- pure gold!
Thank you so much for sharing these pictures and memories. I even like the machines in the river picture, reminding us of Henning on the go, getting things done.

You're welcome. I'm sorry about the missing pictures, casimira. I don't understand it either because I uploaded all in the same manner.

I had a dream about Henning this past summer. Most odd.
It was more like a visit.
