Besides the morbid fascination those photos elicit, they're a window into an earlier world. Photographs weren't the easy, casual things they are now, so in an age of high childhood mortality, parents were left with no picture of the child alive.
Some of those babies are so pitifully thin! Dysentery must have carried quite afew of them off.
The really grotesque one is that trio with the dead young woman's head awkwardly cocked & a smile eternally fixed on her dead lips.
