I was zipping through the downtown market Tuesday and almost passed this jewel of a poster. Luckily, I backed up and took notice, as this bears sharing.
Let's see what mugshots and wanted posters look like where you all live, please, plus any particularly good stuff you might find on the internet.
This is not printed on paper, rather on quite thick, good-quality plastic.
"Cuidado" means be careful. At the bottom you're given the number where you can report these miscreants.
Here we can see the list of their specialties better. In order: muggers; package snatchers; chain [jewelry] snatchers; um, I think this means people who steal from showcases; and pickpockets (cartera = wallet)
Hey lady, are you sure you want to be in this picture?
Let's take a closer look. Nicknames are very big here. Some of these might be the way these people are referred to on the street, & some may have been put by the police. (Don Cuevas, feel free to jump in with translations, please!)
Left to right: Eybrows; Guy from Zaachila; The Coconut (coco can also mean head); Grandpa;
Paddy Wagon (?); Cantinflas (probably for his mustache); Handsome; Dolly
Gawd, they all look guilty as sin!
The Loner; The Serrana's Grandson -- "Serrana" could either mean someone from the mountains or an attractive woman. You'll see that several of these characters are related to the Serrana in some way.
The Northerner; Don't know chupitos -- could be a kind of candy.
The Dark One; Hair; Big Nose; Mr. Sam; The Serrana
Fatty; She-Devil; The Witch; Knife Grinder
Pineapple; either means the peppers or people from Puebla; ditto; Joker
Wake [as of a boat]; The Serrana's Daughter; Fatty; She-Devil
Miz Pearl; The Serrana's Daughter; Pineapple; Poblanos
