Yet another silly game! We can play it or we can leave it. I guess we can try it out anyhow. We ask a question of the person below us, they answer it and then put down their own question for the next person. (p.s. - I think it would be fine if questions were answered by more than one person. And we could even go back to a past question and answer that instead of the last one. So as not to confuse matters - we could just bold or italic the question we are answering at that time.) I'll start. In the winter do you prefer to wear gloves or mittens?

I rarely need them here, but always wear gloves to keep my hands warm in very cold weather. Never mittens.
Do you prefer to use an umbrella or wear a rain jacket when walking in the rain?

I prefer an umbrella. I'm never without one here.

Being wheeled into the operating room at the age of three to have my tonsils and adenoids removed, all the while screaming for my mother. A white-coated man told me he was going to go get her and he'd be right back. Of course, he lied.
What is the most frightening weather situation you have ever experienced?

Bad snow storm. Small airplane in Northern BC. I didn't think we'd make it. Bad weather is compounded by being in the air). What would your last death-row meal be?*Edited to delete my pitiful tonsil tale. Thanks for the sympathy, htmb. *

Oh, Lizzy, you didn't need to remove your post, though it was horrible!
I'm sure you asked the question wishing to hear someone's favorite meal. However, I will take you literally and say I'd probably order steak and really crispy, chunky frites if I were going to eat, but seeing I was about to be executed, I'd settle for a couple of bottles of good wine and drink myself into oblivion before the execution hour.
If you could spend a day with one of your now-deceased, or even very distant, relatives, who would it be and why?

It would be my dad. The tough guy who raised me by himself. It would have been nice to have known him better.
How do you think your life would be different today if computers and the internet were never invented?

I would probably have read a lot more novels and got a lot more work done than I have. But then again, having a world of knowledge at my fingertips is a miracle. My mother always said that my father and I would have been very happy to be locked in a library for all eternity. The internet is a little like that. Except for the porn and the cat videos.
Who was/is the oldest person you have personally known in your lifetime, and how old was/is he/she?

Excluding my nursing home escapades, since I don't really "know" most of the people there, the oldest person I knew was Mme. Denat, my mother's grade school teacher, whom I took my mother to see in Béziers around 2006. She was about 96 years old then. She was my mother's teacher when she was about 23 years old and knew the birthdate of every single student in the village school. She said to my mother, "You weren't the brightest. You were in the top 3, but you weren't the brightest." Her husband was the headmaster of the school. They prevented their daughter from marrying the man she loved (he was "beneath" her), so the daughter never married and at age 80+ was still living with her mother. Anyway, Mme. Denat died at age 99. If your life had taken a different course, at what moment might that have happened?

For me, the different course would have happened during the first week after I was born. That's the week I was sent home with the couple who had arranged, prior to my birth, to adopt me.
If you had to live in a city other than your current home, where would you live and why would you choose that place?

Paris. Paris. Paris. Paris. Paris. Paris. Paris. Paris. Because it's Paris. I always wanted to die in Paris as an old lady, now I'll probably have to be content with a fistful of my ashes under a rose bush somewhere in Luxembourg Gardens.

Ragweed. It's blooming now, and it's makes it harder for me to breathe. A frost or a freeze will be especially welcome.
When invited somewhere, can we count on you to arrive a little early, right on time, or are you the type person who is always running late?

Post by tod2 on Nov 14, 2013 4:33:49 GMT
Yes, you could certainly count on me to either arrive early, or be exactly on time but never running late unless I was involved in something like an accident on my way to an appointment.
When your "things-to-do" list starts becoming a tad too long, how do you force yourself to snap out of it and get on with the job - eg Call in friends to help.

htmb...your question reminds me of a psychologists' joke re appointments:- If patient comes early, they have anxiety issues, If they come late, they have hostility issues, If they come on time, they have obsessive/ compulsive issues.

Well, my 'things to do list' is usually stuff only I can do or have to do by myself. When it gets too long, I prioritize, do what is the most important and then leave the rest to another day. Call in friends to help me? No way haha... I'd feel like I was being invaded or somefin... (Unless it was house maintenance or my car needed fixing, in which case I do ask for help.) My son does most of my car related stuff for me, it's just a hobby he has. And my boyfriend can fix/build just about anything in the house, we very rarely have to call anyone in for anything truth be known. My next project is a large garage, with a room on top. We'll probably start on that next summer. What kind of hobbies do you have?

Once. Only once. I woke up to realize that 30 minutes down the road a group of fifty people was gathering for a 7:30 AM meeting that, not only I had called, but for which I was the only presenter. My electric clock-radio alarm had failed to go off due to a power failure during the night. I managed to get dressed, sans makeup, and made the drive in 20 minutes, showing up 10 minutes late before a very hostile crowd. I walked in, appologized briefly for being late, and began the meeting. I figured there was nothing more to be done.
The very BEST part of that event was how my youngest came through in a pinch. I had hollered down to her bedroom to get up quickly and, while still half asleep, she grabbed her clothes for the day and jumped into the car in her pajamas (her idea). We lived in a rural area so it wasn't a problem for her to change on the way in to town. I really owed her big time for coming through like that. Plus, she wasn't much older than 9 years old at the time. She has continued to be just as resourceful as a young adult.
(Probably not the type of response you wanted, Kerouac, but every other event I could think of was just too maudlin to discuss)

What regular craving seemed so important in the past but has now completely faded away?
|
|
|
Post by Deleted on Nov 18, 2013 18:19:55 GMT
The craving to prove that I was worth it. Maybe it was a lack of self-esteem going back to my childhood. Never feeling 'good enough'.
That has now completely faded away. I realize that the only person that I have to answer to in the end - is me. And as long as I'm at peace with my own soul and know that I am a good person, an honest person and a person that I can like, I'm happy with that. I don't need anyone else to tell me who or what I am.
I realize that people have their own agendas and issues and they will try and push them on you or you have let your guard with them sometime in the past and they know you well enough to then go ahead and use what they know for their own benefits. Sometimes it's done subtly sometimes more in your face. It took me a while to figure that some can and will use you in that way. And it's happened with a couple of different people to me already. Bottom line is you can trust only a very few in life. Most people are not strong enough to stand their ground when they are pressurized not to.
Also the craving I used to have to save the world. I realize that I cannot do that, but I can speak out when I see wrong being done, or an injustice that needs a voice. And maybe in my own small way I can make a difference.
(sorry if this was too long an answer! But I have time on my hands today)!
If you were stranded on a deserted Island for 6 months, which three things would you want to have with you?
