That's a sweet story about the couple that you introduced, Kerouac I do believe in love at first sight. It's hard to explain, call it chemistry or whatever, but sometimes something just clicks and you know it's right and meant to be. If Santa Claus wanted to give me a magical gift it would be - Summer! Right here and right now. One present that you don't want to see under the tree this year?

I would not want one of those bread starters that you must tend and care for so as to keep it alive.
If you could travel anywhere you wished, money, time, responsibility and physical limitations were no object, where would you go and what would you do?

What life changing experience have you had, and how were you affected

I've had several life changing experiences that have certainly steered my life in various directions. Many were completely out of my control and quite tragic, but I'd say the most recent positive and transformative event has been my independent travel from the US to France.
For many on this forum this wouldn't be such a remarkable achievement, but for me personally it was like learning to pilot a rocket to the moon. I had traveled, but not solo and certainly not out of the country. Of all my friends and acquaintances here in my town I can only think of one who would travel to Europe alone, and she was born there. It's just not something common to my peer group. When, after my first trip, my aunt asked what was the best part about it I remember saying it was the fact that I had actually done it! Not only did I do it, it was done well.
Continuing to plan and execute trips has become an unexpected passion as I've continued to travel solo, or very occasionally with select friends or family members. I have also appreciated the many helpful tidbits of information I've picked up both here and on another forum, and have managed to meet some pretty nice people, too.

What life changing experience have you had, and how were you affected
The number number life changing experience I've had is - having my kids.
It changed my life to something completely different to what it would have been had I not had them. Someone once said that 'having children is like walking around for ever more with your heart outside of your body'. That is so accurate.
Where to begin on how it's changed me? I became a better person, a stronger person, a kinder person, and more understanding of other parents and what they go through. NOTHING is more challenging than raising kids, and nothing is more rewarding and worth while. It's the hardest job I've ever done but the most fulfilling.
If you could stay at one particular age forever more, what would it be and why?

I would stay 40 forever - at my slimmest 53kg's, at my liveliest health and energetic wise, could swing the world with one hand tied behind my back!

I think I liked being 30 -- I still considered myself young but I also considered myself mature. (ha ha ha, how untrue that was -- but I didn't know that back then)

Joe, the Polish pilot with whom I crewed up. He was 29 I was 19, and he helped me into the strange world of being a night fighter crew, although he had no previous night fighter experience. We stayed together for well over 4 years, the most formative years of my adult life.
Looking at a previous question, I should have stayed that 19 year old on the day we crewed up. I knew everything then, been there done it all, got the T-shirt ;D ;D ;D
What famous event in history would you like to have attended, and why?

What are the qualities you value the most in your closest friend?
Honesty and kindness would be way up there as qualities I value in a good friend. That and someone who is funny. I joke around quite a bit and it's nice to have friends with a good sense of humor.
What kind of clothes do you prefer to wear.? What is your style? What do you feel most comfortable in? Or does it all depend on the job or occasion?

What are the qualities you value the most in your closest friend?I have always valued honesty the most. My closest friend can make some very cruel statements, but they are as likely to be about himself as they are about me. And when I have cornered him with some contradictions in his life that he cannot admit, he has always had the decency to just remain silent rather than lying. I am not that strong, because I still lie. What kind of clothes do you prefer to wear.? What is your style? What do you feel most comfortable in? Or does it all depend on the job or occasion? I lost interest in looking fashionable around the turn of the century, even though I still would receive a surprising compliment from time to time. I stopped wearing a tie to the office for about the last 8 years, even though there was still a manager at the beginning who would reprimand me for this. The later manager had the decency either to not care or at least to keep his mouth shut, because he very quickly understood that it was not in his interest to annoy me. My own attire consists of black jeans about 80% of the time and something equally dark (very often black) on top. But after all, this is how Parisians dress, so maybe I am fashionable after all -- otherwise I might be wearing lime green or fuschia. Ha ha -- I'm sure that Deyana's question was aimed at women anyway! If you could take only ONE type of music to the proverbial desert island, what style would it be?

Black jeans, black or purple t-shirt, colorful scarf

Kerouac, no it was aimed at everyone! I'm probably even less bothered about what I wear than most men are If you could take only ONE type of music to the proverbial desert island, what style would it be? That's a hard one. I love all kinds of music. But I guess I'd say 50's music, because it's fun and it would be nice to have on a beach 'vacation'. I can just imagine dancing on the beach to Eddie Cochran's 'Summer time blues'

Are you embarrassed or unable to say that you like certain things that everybody you know hates?

I typically say what I believe if I think there's a point to my making some sort of a statement or if I feel it necessary to make an argument. Holding back information is not done because I'm afraid of what others might think, but rather because I am comfortable with certain thoughts and don't feel the need to debate.
Do you ever make statements just to get a rise out of someone or get their attention?

At one time in my life, that was about the only sort of statement I would make. Things have changed, albeit not completely.

I wear gloves when necessary, particularly on a bicycle, because I have fingers.

What parent do you most resemble in appearance, behavior, character, intellect, etc?

I am almost a carbon copy of my mother, except that I have softer character traits (because I am a Libra or because civilisation has evolved since she was young?) I was actually recognized in younger years by people I had never met in both Metz and the Paris suburbs who both asked me if I was the grandson of Mme. Hottier because I looked so much like her daughter Yvonne.

Are you embarrassed or unable to say that you like certain things that everybody you know hates? No, can't say I am. I like what I like and do express that. I think it's very important to be true to ourselves and not be hiding stuff just to be liked or not be ridiculed. We are all different and I happen to be happy with my 'differences'.

I'm a mix of both of them. And they were complete opposites to each other. So not sure what that implies ;D
I have my mom's love of animals and her empathetic and fun side. I have my dads tough side, and his type of determination. I look a bit like each of them, although probably a bit more like my dad.

Do you keep a 'calender' or diary of things that need doing for the weeks or months to come? Are you a very organized type of person or do you just let things happen as they will?

I have kept a calendar since I was 12 years old. I went from writing on the kind you hang on the wall, to a big thick binder-type with lots of space to write daily information. Now everything is electronic and synched between phone, tablet, and computers. Much of what I do in my job involves logistical planning so I couldn't do it if I wasn't organized. My family members operate the same way for the most part. For the holidays we had a color-coded spreadsheet so we would know who was going where and when. Not that we didn't ever veer from the plan, but it helped to keep (almost) everyone from getting left out of an activity or an outing, and was necessary to help keep such a large group coordinated.

Sounds like the calender comes in handy for you, htmb! Regarding the same question, I do keep a calender too. A two to three month one and I also have a separate smaller one with tentative plans and ideas written down for the next 2 to 3 years. I've always found they help in organizing life in general. I wouldn't do with them.
This next question is about on-line security/identity. Do you ever worry that your on-line identity might be stolen? In that someone might take your on-line handle/name or (God forbid) your real name in order to cause mischief or blacken your on-line identity? I only use the name 'Deyana' on here and the couple of other pro-boards forums I am on. Seeing as it's something that could easily be done, what would you do if such a thing occurred? Is it best to ignore it or react to it or report it to Proboards or whatever parent site it may be on?
