I'm sure that lots of us have wondered what is really happening in scenes where drugs are being used in movies and television series. This article reveals quite a few of the secrets. However, I do happen to know that in the 1990's at least, some actors got the real stuff from the film companies, although not necessarily on screen. There was even part of the film budget allocated to this kind of thing.

What a hoot!! The most striking movie scene that comes to mind regarding this is Al Pacino in Scarface, the humongous mound of cocaine sitting on his desk as his 'empire' collapses.
On another note, I can recall numerous scenes where the "enactment" is superbly performed. There's a scene in the movie Traffic where the daughter, upon smoking whatever it is, (I'm assuming heroin), seems to be so convincing that it makes one shiver.
