Finally looking at that very interesting link -- thanks, Htmb. It's easy to think of animals as mere background in movies and tv, but obviously highly trained horses are needed to withstand the noise and stress involved in shooting scenes.
Due respect to directors and editors with the sensitivity to extract the best from scenes with animals. You may know of my love for the tv series Boardwalk Empire. Towards the end of this season's finale, there's a poignant, silent shot of a man on a porch. But what raises it to poetry is the inclusion of an old basset hound lying on the edge of the porch, as he gets up and walks to the front door.
