Time, I guess, for the annual Christmas Break. What mess awaits us afterwards?

It was already offline for more than 24 hours earlier in the week.

It's down now for Makeover V. Supposed to be up and running on Wednesday. What amazing and awful surprises await us loyal posters?

That reminds me -- I still have to select a free book from them as my reward for evaluating this upgrade last week. Actually, what I saw on the test looked very similar to the previous version except that the colours were all wrong.

Well, it's 3:00 a.m. CST and TT is not yet back on line. But then, I didn't expect it would hew to a strict schedule.
The latest Tweet from LP Community Team says: "LP Community Team @communitylp 2h @juswat23 Not much longer now. (By which I mean, another four hours at least, but maybe a wee bit longer.)"

I just had a look too since they were supposed to be back on Wednesday. Well, it's evening in Melbourne, but still nothing.

I don't think the software is anywhere near Australia now. I think it is in the Pacific time zone.
Anyway, they are still offline.

It's probably all due to my comments during the testing phase.

I'll say early next week we'll see Makeover V in the flesh.

So, the TT is still not back online, but the online shop is, so I selected the book "The World's Best Spicy Food" as my reward. Now I have to go and find the world's tenderest toilet paper.

The Thorn Tree is back, but you have to make different links. One major comment that I made was ignored -- I said that there was not enough contrast in the print, and that has not changed at all.
Private messages have returned -- but with an empty slate.

Yes, it's back, but I have not been able to log in. It's probably all my fault for trying to do so while under the influence of spirituous liquors. I sent them a HELP! email.
UPDATE I was just now able to log in by changing browsers and some Web hoo-doo.

Yes, they want people to re-ener their password or make a new one...which I did. There's one new post in WE, but they did move Ansh's Schengen forum to the top which is good. Don't know if anyone else ran into it (I posted complaints about various 'new look' concerns) but the space for comments is ridiculously small....I also dislike the text color and the placement of the Report function..which currently takes up the entire width of the page AND too much space..well, it's enough that I won't bother reporting anything except something that irritates the hell out of me. Which put me in a non-generous mood so I won't contribute links (on TT) about two articles from Skift skift.com/2014/02/07/lonely-planet-buys-budget-travel-magazine-reportedly-for-2-4-million/skift.com/2014/03/17/the-best-lines-from-outside-magazines-very-long-profile-of-lonely-planets-boss/I don't know if many people bother to read such things but it lets LP know someone is watching them... I did notice on my profile (from the top of the page link) that it listed all the most recent posts...but whatever gormless idiot came up with THAT plan needs to go sit in an empty field and think on the meaning of life and stop being so innovative. I don't usually watch or recommend US tv programs but a friend who knows my dislike of some hipster techies, had me watch an episode of CSI LA....one extremely self-satisfied techie was being particularly detestable, and one of the senior members, [looking at him, top to bottom, the senior member wearing a proper suit, looks at the young man's almost beach attire with long shorts (men's pedal pushers?) and scuffy sandals...] said...do this, do this....and go home and put on some big boy pants...this is not your playground. I'll try to find out the techie's name (from the program) and will use it as a generic term for planners who don't plan at all well...

I just opened AnyPort using Safari, and it remembered me with no questions asked or any hassles. That's like coming home again.

I just posted a new topic on the USA Branch, but encountered this cryptic message: 502 Bad Gateway
nginx/1.2.9
I persisted and was able to post it. But when i tried to return, I again came to 502 Bad Gateway
nginx/1.2.9

I haven't even been back there for several days. In spite of my historic attachment to it, it just pisses me off too much. I even had a very innocuous post there deleted because it did not conform to the new "community guidelines." I felt that I was suddenly at Trip Advisor!

Back myself on Sunday night after a 5 month absence from there and a bit of a shock to see we're now 'officially' at TTV (TT5)...which strikes me as 'sleight of hand' as the last revision would have been that by my reckoning and this should be denominated as TT6. Better not start whinging straight away as I'm beginning to feel like an old reactionary at this stage...discussing music with friends years ago, a standard reaction to every second release was that 'it's OK but their earlier stuff was much better, of course'!!! Time to pause for reflection...
