You often say you never get sick so you are just making up for it with a double flu+cold. You'll be good for a few more years after this.

I certainly hope so. In the good news department, I have lost 3 kilos in 5 days.

Kerouac, I know this is probably the last thing you feel like doing, but you will feel so much better if you put all the bedding in the wash and then open up all your windows for an hour or so (take the opportunity to leave the apartment for a bowl of soup somewhere) you need to get rid of all of those germs! And you will feel really good when you go to bed at the end of the day.

Thank you htmb. I hope Kerouac is on the way to recovery as well. This reminds me of the ban on romaine lettuce we had prior to Christmas. This has happened the past 3 years, finally the grocery chains changed the State their provider was sourcing from, seems to have worked. Although not so easy to apply the same solution to the oyster problem! I am a bit concerned about a relapse as I went for a pedicure the other day and she was so sick, I felt so bad for her. Before I left I washed me hands thoroughly, tried to be conscience of not touching my face and used a hand sanitizer went I got home, hopefully I did not become infected again! But my feet feel wonderful.

Oh, Mich ~ with that condition it must scare you every time you get a bad headache. Yes, a concern but I do not worry about it. It is the reason for my brain injury in 2006, the doctor's believed the AVM became disturbed which then affected the tissue around it which caused my speech and some other issues. Being concrete now (no abstract thought), I actually find it easier to deal with, I do not let it control my life as I used to.

Concrète is very close to glass. Mostly sand. Same density. So you will see it through. I can be concrete but I prefer abstraction. My biggest problem however is that I am to be taken at 2d or best 4th degree. So I really have to adapt when I mean down to earth people. And I realise I can be a problem !

Yes, but I still feel too miserable to go out. I went to the post office today, just across the street, and it wore me out.

When I had that bad flu and was forced to go out for dog food it felt like the sun was boiling my eyeballs in their sockets. And that tiredness thing Kerouac just described? I thought seriously about crawling on my hands and knees on the sidewalk.

Now I am in a sneezing phase. I quite enjoy sneezing in moderation (and so far it IS in moderation).

I'm not quite as ill as those with serious flu, but I do feel as if I've been punched in the chest. Yesterday I ate nothing, today mostly homemade poutry stock (a life-giver).
Turning in soon...

Yes, Livia slept atop me/beside me all last night too. Having me die would have been most inconvenient. I do feel much better after all that crap.

Going to try to take my own advice and put all my bedding in the wash machine and open up some windows. Trying to recover from a second round of the cold virus that has been in the community since December. Feeling worse this time, deep into my chest, sounds like bronchitis. I have been watching my fever go above and below normal all week.

Every region of France is now on alert at epidemic levels for the flu. What is really strange is that Paris was one of the last areas to go red on the map. You would think we would be the first with all of those foreigners bringing in their diseases.

I got my first ever flu vaccination today, using my free old person certificate (like in many countries, anybody over the age of 65 receives such things). You can now get this done directly at the pharmacy in France (since about 2 or 3 years ago), so I was ushered into the back room. It was much more ceremonial than I expected, with a screen and a stool just like in those tiny photo studios of olden times. The pharmacist must have used half a tub of sanitizer since every single time he touched anything, he decontaminated his hands again with all of the between-the-fingers routine, making me wonder if virus can get between your fingers when you have just picked up a vaccine package.
Anyway, it's done now.

I got an old-people's voucher for a vaccine too. Have never had a flu vaccine but thought this year might be a good one to start. Not that I have had flu for decades but just in case.

We got our flu shots yesterday at one of the grocery stores that has a pharmacy. There is no voucher or charge, we fill in a form that requires our health card number.
My parents have an appointment for November 8th, my father is still recovering from a cold he has had for the last 3 1/2 weeks that caused a tear in his throat which then caused a bleed that required a hospital stay. I fear all the stresses of COVID19 is affecting his recovery. We are checking in on him everyday and getting their groceries. I am worried to see how nervous they are and I wish there was something more I could do to help that would improve their spirits.

I just got my voucher too; they are also being done at nearby pharmacies. Definitely going.
I'm at least borderline anorexic, for the first time in my life. I've never had an eating disorder (only food allergies). I also lost several kilos and dropped at least 2 or 3 jeans sizes. The ones I had are falling off me, and all but a couple are being washed and bundled up to a nearby charity shop.
Kept a couple just in case, but I doubt I'll put all the weight I lost on again.

Mich, I can see why you are worried about your father's health and about the stress level of both your parents. Of course they are also still in a state of grief for your sister, so it's understandable why their spirits are low. Is there anything you might do to distract them ~ maybe come up with some kind of project that encourages them to reminisce so that a fun family history might be created?
LaGatta, have you had all this radical lack of appetite and weight loss looked into? Not my business, but it seem like maybe you should.

I agree Bixa, the problem is their fear prevents them from leaving the house. I am now back to getting their groceries, the daily paper and their banking. This summer we would visit with them on nice days where we could sit outside with them due to COVID rules, now that fall/winter has arrived, I am relegated to picking up lists from their mailbox and placing their groceries inside their door. This is what is so distressing, they have not been out of the driveway in almost a month. I call them everyday and my husband brings the newspaper to them most days when he is not working. I will keep trying the get them out once he recovers.

Oh dear, Mich -- no wonder you are worried about their state of mind in addition to your father's bad cold. Do you think something like this might engage their interest? birdingdepot.com/best-window-bird-feeders/
