Yes, I turned in very early, but woke up coughing (chest hurting) at 2 am, so I'm up drinking warm water and looking up bus timetables for things I have to do today - however if I don't feel better, I can't have my friends over.

No voice at all right now. Scary. Odd, as other than that, I feel somewhat better.

Well, Mr. Faire and I have the flu. We left Vancouver on Wednesday and forgot to get our annual flu shot (cheaper in Canada). Not that it would have helped with this bout. He's deathly ill, coughing and sighing and moaning, and I'm running to the drugstore, making chicken soup and fresh biscuits to tempt his appetite, and generally faring much better. So it goes.

I hope faire Lizzy continues to fare fairly well.
Stupid question: is there a "the flu" this year? Just saw on facebook where a friend in New Orleans was complaining about having gotten the flu shot, and now he has the flu.

I mostly feel better, but still very little voice. The relentless, hacking cough has subsided somewhat. Still, I feel dizzy, and like lying down.

bixa - normally, whenever I've had my flu shot (in either country), I come down with a mild case of the flu. But this year, absolutely nothing happened - that's why I'm worried that it won't protect me!
This morning, though, my dog woke up sneezing and coughing...

Hope you are better, LaGatta, & getting the rest you need.
Chexbres, I don't get the flu shot -- never have -- and have had only had one bout of what might have been flu in the last ten years or more, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.
Your poor doggy, though! Could it be an allergic reaction to something?

Trying to, but I have to drink a lot of warm water and herbal teas, hence I have to go to the WC at least a couple times a night. And this morning I had a bad nosebleed that turned out to be a blood clot(!) It has ended though.
As far as the diet thread, I have zero appetite and have been eating very little at all. The weather has turned sunny and mild, and I'm hoping I can get in at least a short bicycle ride. I have to see a client, but she isn't doing well either so that won't be before tomorrow...
Yes, I was worrying about the doggy as well. Renzo is happy to have me so present and useful as a heating pad.

My dog is still sneezing (but not wheezing) and has decided to sleep a lot today, so will probably be fine. The pollution level has been much higher than normal in Paris for the past couple of days, so this might have something to do with it. She's awfully close to the ground, so inhales dust and leaf mold like a Dyson vacuum cleaner. She always gets a good brushing after going outside, which helps a lot.
I've got asthma, have had a couple of serious bouts of pneumonia and generally end up with bronchitis several times a year. So, it's strongly recommended that I get both the annual flu and pneumo shots - otherwise, I wouldn't bother, but they do seem to have kept things to a minimum.
Hope everyone is feeling better soon, and stays that way!

What part of Paris do you live in?
How old is your dog? And what type? (even if mutt, general vicinity...)

I live on the opposite side of town from kerouac, and my dog is a Yorshire-Bichon mix (as far as anyone can tell).
I suspect it's impossible to catch a virus from your computer, but this morning I woke up feeling not well at all. Not quite flu-ish, but probably heading in that direction. Dog still looking a little peaked, but otherwise acting normally. Me, too.

Surely the location is not really accurate. Chexbres isn't even on the Left Bank!

I think I made bad karma rudely smirking to Chexbres about my rude good health despite not flu shot. I'm getting a sore throat.

Yep, bixa - that karma will rear up and bite you on the ass, all right - gets me every time! I don't think all your rude smirking should have made you come down with a sore throat, though Hope it doesn't linger. La Gatta - anyone who knows me understands how directionally-challenged I am. I live between Bastille and Place des Vosges (in one of 2 Haussmannian buildings which replaced an ancient charity hospital), and had never really thought about which bank I live on until kerouac brought it to my attention! I tend to think that "Left Bank / Right Bank" is more a state of mind in Paris, anyway. Forgot to mention that my dog celebrated her 2nd birthday in mid-September, and probably has some kangaroo blood mixed in somehow, because she jumps so much - and so high.

I've been in denial most of the day, but clearly I am coming down with something. I slept super well last night and got up as usual, but about half an hour later, I decided that I would feel much better in bed, and I did. I got up again after about an hour and felt okay but still tired. I took the metro and started getting hot flashes in it, but luckily the ride was not too long. Went to see Victor Frankenstein and felt like his first attempt - a sort of semi decomposed monkey-dog built with things from the zoo. Made it through the movie, and then I was freezing to death outdoors even though it isn't even cold today. And I was cold in the metro, too. Made some hot instant soup and then I crawled onto the sofa under two blankets and slept for another hour. Luckily I left the TV on because there was a programme with sobbing parents giving all of the details of how their adult children committed suicide while in medical school. It was unbearable. This drove me to a vertical position again and I have finally taken some flu medicine. Now I'm waiting to see what will happen.

Just have a hot toddy and go to bed, Kerouac.

I hope it's just a bad cold, K. I find going to bed in lots of clothes and blankets will at least force whatever you're fighting to the forefront. I've just come out of a month of flu then cold then chest infection, finishing my last antibiotics today. Good luck.

And don't sneeze or cough on the forum, okay?
I think it has to be a virgin toddy if he's taken flu medicine, Bjd.
Sorry you are feeling bad, Kerouac. I hope you can sleep a lot and avoid the really miserable flu symptoms.
I hope I don't have a cold. I'm sort of stuffed up and can't get warm. Took a 24-hour pill day before yesterday at about 7 in the evening. Its side effect of enormous sleepiness kicked in yesterday afternoon and I succumbed to a nap. Either that or the giant mug of oolong I drank meant I did not sleep well last night, despite going to bed very late. *sigh*
Edited to say I didn't see Lizzy's post until after I made mine. Hope you are feeling better & stronger, Lizzy.

Actually, I am not even feeling bad. I am just feeling like a mobile phone whose screen has just dimmed because the battery is almost dead.

That's an interesting way to describe it. Hopefully, you will feel better soon. We've been missing chexbres. I hope she's not feeling poorly, too.
Funny how these things spread. A virus has been working its way through my daughter's New York City friends. She was quite ill for 24 hours, but has now recovered.

Maybe you can get international air traffic shut down to keep the North American germs away from you.
I woke up this morning feeling like warmed-over dog crap. Every bone in my face hurts and my body aches all over. I am cold and nauseated and most unhappy.

I became more uncomfortable today and had chills again, after my night of hot flashes. However I just took some Dafalgan with codeine and am feeling much better. I don't remember if it requires a prescription, though.

Codeine would be nice. I took a Tabcin -- called Alka-Seltzer Plus in the US -- and feel much less bad.

Probably no consolation, but the thing going through my daughter's crowd in NYC has a horrible gastro component to it on top of the fever and chills. At least that group should be well before coming home for the holidays.
