I had fish tacos with rice and beans, the Mr. had panko-breaded fish sandwich with fries, and our friend had shrimp tacos with rice. (It was lunchtime. At dinner, we would have had seafood of some kind: grouper, mahi-mahi or triple tail. Their dinner specials are always worth getting.)

Tonight I am rapidly searing a salmon fillet, which will be garnished with Korean seaweed and fresh dill from my windowbox.

I love it when it comes in plates, pots etc. It just looks wonderful, and you look gorgeous too. Ditto Whatagain!!!! I somehow missed Bixa's post and couldn't agree more!! (No surprise there as all eyes would be on Bixa whenever we dined out. She is "old school" in that when going out she wouldn't be caught dead dressed sloppily etc. Something my mother always drilled into me and I resented but, always obeyed and yet follow her manner to this very day.)

Been to restaurant yesterday and the day before. On wed i had a carpaccio of kangaroo followed by a superb duck. Yesterday it was a menu decouverte. The baby lobster was good, the veal with shiitaki (?) Mushroom excellent. The best was the starter but i forgot what it was. Coquilles st jacques with nuts oil. I skipped dessert. But it was too long, understaffed and under qualified. And too expensive. Esp since i was the one who paid !

Since my wice was on holiday i went quite a lot to the restaurant this week.
A thai one, i had a wok, great, an italian one, pasta with truffle, goid, a belgian one, elaborate, very good in a very old building in Namur, splendid, a asian one, a ? Close to the cinema, and one in a tennis club, all you can eat steak.
Of the other days, i managed to be invited twice.
Now i hope to eat at home for a few days...

We went to a pub today for Sunday lunch, first time since before lockdown (our anniversary). The meal was ok if not particularly memorable, service struggled as not enough staff for the number of diners but the shock was £10.10 for a large glass of Pinot Grigio. Shan’t be repeating that.

Ouch for the price of the wine, but I hope that you enjoyed going out for a meal at last. I have gone out for meals very little myself.

It was very pleasant in a nice country pub.
My daughter who eats out regularly tells me I have to expect that now.

We had a guest for a few days last week so he invited us to the restaurant on Saturday at noon. It was 38° at that point and we sat outside where supposedly there was a bit more air than inside. My husband and I had sea bass fillets with french fries, our guest had squid in sauce. It was too hot to drink wine so we had water. And a big dish of ice cream for dessert.

Belated Congratulations and Happy Anniversary Wishes Mick!
We finally went out for an evening meal and I had a delicious spinach salad topped with steak and roasted vegetables. My glass of wine was also about $12.00!

You & your sweetie deserved $12 glasses of wine and everything else after everything you've been through lately! That salad sounds wonderful.

I took my niece to a vegetarian restaurant recently...very reasonable. Niece had some sort of vegetable and pasta thing...I had a lovely spicy dahl soup. We got a large dish of mixed salad to share and a chunk of crusty bread. Too stuffed for a sweet....we settled for coffee

Today it was up to me to choose a restaurant to have lunch with a friend I haven't seen in a few months. He said "Japanese or something like Thai salad." My own criterion was "not in the middle of the tourist zone" which has become unbearable at the moment. We usually meet at Châtelet, so that was excluded.
Anyway we ended up at an amazingly good Japanese place near Bastille (still some tourists, but not that bad). On top of that, it was cheap.
I have to confess that I am still not a fan of maki containing avocado (even though I like avocado). My friend was happy to vacuum up all of the ones that I didn't eat.

I had the loveliest restaurant experience yesterday. This is a restaurant that I feel is the perfect choice for a festive occasion, the occasion in question being the a friend's birthday. The surroundings alone are worth the visit, and the service and food are both excellent. If I have one gripe, it is that they've gone to using a QR code instead of a physical menu. If anyone wants to see the place: losdanzantesoaxaca.com.mx/. You can access the menu from that link. We started with the mushroom masala, which we split. I don't know what "masala" is, but the dish was two flattened mushrooms in a pleasant, light mole-type sauce topped with crisp-fried pieces of leek. She had coconut shrimp (large, perfectly cooked & crisp) in a sweet/sour sauce. I had the octopus which turned out to be quite large, but also delicious. For dessert, the birthday girl had the apple cake. That turned out to be a long, long ribbon of apple coiled atop a tart-shaped sugar cookie. I had the chocolate cascade, which is one of those chocolate volcano cake things. No regrets on that. We started with drinks and I asked for a gin martini because I wanted the thrill of having one made for me. The gin list wasn't long, but I was happy to select The London No. 1, which is a lovely gin. It was a generous serve in an elegant glass, but the first sip almost put me on the floor with joy. It was perfect! I got the waiter to ask the barman which vermouth he used, which was Carpano Dry, if anyone cares about such things. It was an extremely pleasant leisurely lunch -- the best kind.

That sounds pretty good but at the same time extremely random in terms of variety. I promise that I will click on the menu soon to see what I would have selected.
It is amazing how "chocolate volcano cake" has spread all over the world since it was only invented in 1981.

bixa, Los danzantes looks lovely. Reading your descriptions of what you two ate is for me better than seeing photos or reading their menu. Often in a restaurant I'll be swayed more by a passing plate than by the menu itself. And you've made me thirsty, but it's not gin o'clock here yet. Well, we don't have any gin on hand anyway, but I'll drink a kir normand before dinner.
How often do you go out to lunch? I know you are an enthusiastic cook, but with all the professional talent surrounding you, you must be tempted to see what the pros can do with good ingredients.

As far as I know, "masala" is a mix of spices, generally Indian or Pakistani.
