Many of you know my loathing of the non-word "veggie". *orp*
Well, today my innocent sensibilities were further assaulted. I wanted to know how much time to pressure cook shelled fresh beans. There weren't many google hits, so I clicked on one by The Veggie Queen -- a blogger, no surprise. I was already grinding my teeth over her blog name, but almost threw up when she referred to shelled fresh beans as "shellies".

Mr. Kimby hates the word “hate”, at least when I use it to signify my disdain for something. He thinks I use it too much, but it’s such a good shorthand word for a host of negative emotions toward something.

Have you told him you hate his critiquing your choice of words? It's a good sturdy word that conveys what you want it to convey.

In French the word hate is haïr. The h is not pronounced but its presence prohibits any liaison. We say je hais not j'hai (which would be same as j'ai - i have(. So when people do make the liaison i want to smack them. Some Quebecois say 'j'ailli ça' which kills me.
