You ought to know me by now, I cannot resist a pretty face. Once I exit Gare du Nord from the Eurostar I cross the road to visit an ATM and then sit down to a meal and survey the scene. Close to me sat this little charmer
She had a Mona Lisa smile (sort of) and was dressed in a simple smart shortish dress.
As I sat there bemused there was a toot, she got up and walked over to the massive motor bike which had drawn up, evidently the boyfriend. There was a phrase common when the miniskirt came in "she had legs up to her armpits". This lass proved it in a quick flash as she swung her leg over, and they were gone.
Later in my trip I had stopped at the cafe across the road from my hotel for a lazy beer while recovering from the days walking.
My attention was drawn by the antics of this fellow, stationed at the kerb with a can of beer who kept up a constant stream of conversation with himself and more worryingly with passing motorists as he stood in the side of the road.
I did not see the girl across the road to his left until I reviewed my pictures later I assure you, but she is a first class example. This one walking toward me proves that even in Paris not all ladies are perfect
Before I am accused of being a DOM this was not my only interest and I paid a visit to rue Desnoyez to check on the latest.
Note the creature is using a spray can.
Some street artists were busy, although this one was taking a well earned rest
I think he had just finished creating this masterpiece in the middle of the road
Note the legs in the background which belong to another artist so my theme is continued.
Peace and love
Here was another artist whose work I interrupted to take this shot. Peace and love, man.
I know some people disapprove of street art but some is very talented.
And some is weird
Another time I visited the belvedere above the parc de Belleville in company with our wannabe Parisienne htmb, where this dreamy stuff I think is commissioned by the authorities.
I also took her to this communal garden/play area in rue Chalet
the gardens have their homemade scarecrows
and the nightmarish
the whole watched over by this cat on the wall
There was also this handy seat which I was pleased to see I was entitled to sit on
To get there we had to pass yet another version of Parisienne, not a very glamorous example of the oldest profession.
All in all I had enjoyed a very pleasant few hours showing htmb around Belleville, although I am not so sure she approved of everything she saw.
One of my favourite areas is the Bassin de la Villette, and it was nice to see people relaxing in the old fashioned deck chairs
A set of boules lay unwanted on the court.
While the children had a nice playground to enjoy
There are also these little powered boats one can hire to cruise the area
I had occasion to admire the victory arches as I wandered along the Grandes Boulevards
I didn't think anything could be pottier then me, but I spotted this street sign on my way to visit le Cent Quatre, the old municipal funeral parlour now turned over to culture.
Inside were various art installations, mostly above my head
Acrobats
and the biggest Tai Chi class
A must visit for me are the Puces de Vanves
A vast range of material is obtainable here, from tat to good antiques. This majolica dish caught my eye
and I scored this little glass and white metal fox for 5 euros
Another essential is a wander in the parc Buttes Chaumont, where this moorhen had built her nest safely out in the middle of the lake on an underwater obstruction
I also spotted the formation of Canada geese practising for a display
The locals attempts at English can be amusing
I enjoyed a quiet drink there although the clientele were in general about a quarter my age
Once again I was totally walked out as I sank into my Eurostar seat on the way home. i went right off to sleep on the train from London up to Ipswich and was awoken with a start when the young lady sitting beside me said "Hello", unfortunately she was addressing her mobile, not me.
So ended my latest Paris jaunt.
