I find myself going back to this thread periodically. Not only are the photographs interesting to see, but the lack of color allows the eyes and brain a whole different perception of each scene. I do hope you will eventually add more photographs, Kerouac.

I like the CSM photos very much. Especially the one third from the end. What time of day did you take that photo, Kerouac?

It looks like soft early morning light in two of the photos.
Very nice.

Saint Sulpice is of my favorite places in that area to photograph, Kerouac. Unfortunately there's a market when I'm there in the summer so it's hard to photograph the fountain.
I really like the composition of your last photograph.

These are a particularly atmospheric selection. Thanks goodness I am due in Paris in just over two weeks time, otherwise I would have serious withdrawal symptoms.

Lucky you, Mossie. I'm having a terrible time and this thread doesn't help.

Here's a thought for kerouac: I finally caught up with The Red Balloon from my DVD subscription, and I notice next year will be its 60th anniversary. I know a lot of the decaying and winding alleys of Ménilmontant that it shows were demolished to make the Parc de Belleville, but there seemed to be quite a few other parts of Paris that I recognised. Is there scope for a "then and now" thread on those locations - or indeed any atmospheric old movies of Paris (and not just Hotel du Nord)..? I really like how you captured the light on the steps.
I'm not sure what's worse......going down, or going up.

Despite the fact that people look different, there is graffiti and ads that didn't exist, the fact of making these pictures black and white really reminds me of old photos of Paris taken in the 1940s and 1950s.In some areas, things don't seem to have changed much at all.
Patrick, somewhere in a box I have a copy of The Red Balloon -- a book published using stills from the movie.

I so much wish I could see these properly hung in a gallery so that each one would be presented with the setting & importance it deserves.
Absolutely fabulous series, Kerouac, with many, many, many of the pictures completely outstanding in their own right. But the sensitivity, the perfection of the treatment you've chosen for each is just mind-boggling.
