I'm looking at the Applebee's menus on line. Several sandwiches say something like the following:
"Cheddar cheese and crispy Applewood smoked bacon crown our thick ‘n hearty burger on a toasted bakery bun."
What other kind of bun might a restaurant serve?

Maybe they just mean that they did not crack open a Pillsbury cylinder of dough and stick it in the restaurant oven.

Oh, I think this belongs in that "food jargon I hate" thread. It goes hand-in-hand with "artisanal" baking techniques. What the hell is that?

There are true, artisanal baking techniques, but Marketing has appropriated and misused the term.
