Walk to hospital

I had my appointment to check my hip at a year after replacement. It was done at a little hospital about a mile from my home and as it was a nice morning I walked. Luckily I have to go down the old lane away from our estate and through the scruffy wood at the end to reach it. Autumn is starting and there was a good crop of elderberries.
Not to mention blackberries
I also spotted this enormous bracket fungus
A robin was tracking me, it wasn't until I looked at this shot on the screen that I could see he was keeping a beady eye on me.
But he gave me a sweet tune from a high perch
The path through the wood gets fresh sand washed down from the bank above. This is from a belt of sand marking the line of one of the ancient mouths of the Thames, formed when the glaciers melted and the water flowed out into the North Sea until it was deep enough to overtop the land bridge which separated us from Europe, forming the Straits of Dover. Some of the sand, like this, is very fine and almost pure white. We took advantage of this at the asphalt plant I ran and worked out a large seam.
Of course there are woodland weeds including this rosebay willow herb, which spreads like crazy, I am always pulling it out of my garden.
Along the path this old hollow oak has played home to a straggly holly bush, very difficult to get a sensible photo but I hope you get the idea.
I enjoyed my walk even more when the quack gave me a clean bill of health and signed me off.
