It's so nice to see more pictures of your part of the world, Tod, and your dear mother is so sweet to let us get a glimpse of her hairdresser's place. What a nice relaxed-looking place for a hairdresser's shop!

And here I thought the thread would be about pruning bushes, which is what we did this morning in the garden.

What a lovely place to go. I hope that the drive is not inconveniently long, but she must be a really good hairdresser to dare to set up her business in what looks like the middle of nowhere.
I do have a "South African" question, though -- does she need as much security as people living in the towns?

Thanks htmb! Yes, it is better than we anticipated. They have even put in a ramp for the older customers.
So you were pleasantly surprised bjd!
Kerouac your question is very valid. I will ask some pertinent questions on our next visit in about 10 days time. The new salon is situated about 15km from town and we took the long way around getting there but going home I hit the freeway and was at my off-ramp in 20minutes - and that was in heavy drizzle so in good weather I could cut that down by at least 7 minutes. The worst stretch of road is the long dirt road running alongside the fence to the property. I might wear a lot of tires out.....that is my new car in the photos. Gone is the BMW.
At first I thought I could persuade my mother to go to my salon which is 3 minutes from the care home. Then I thought it would not be a happy outing for her as Muffy has been doing her hair for nigh on 40 years and is their longest standing customer. I now look at it as an outing for her.
You may notice on the entrance to the monkey houses there is a board with the name of the property. "Ishona Langa" (pronounced ee shawn a langa) and means The Sun is Shining or Here Shines the Sun, or even Place of The Sun...take your pick. Muffy the hairdresser has a partner by the name of Victor....wait for it...Hugo. They are both pilots.

Yes, Tod, I was pleasantly surprised. Your mum looks wonderful for her age.
Does "Muffy" have a real name?

Ha Ha! Thanks, mum is not bad for 93. I have no idea what Muffy's real name is but will ask. I'm not too shy about coming forward...

I was wondering if it is normal for all of those trees to be leafless at this time of year. After all, it is the middle of spring!

Yes, you have good genes. Your mum is a very attractive elderly lady. So was mine. She died at 98, which was at least 3 years too long. Not Alzheimer, but a series of mini-strokes (we won't go into the details, or my brother's lack of care, but he's always been screwed up).
My father died at not much more than my current (boomer) age, but he was an inveterate chain smoker.
I love the red African earth. And your mum's hairdresser has very impressive ... hair.

Tod, I was so excited to see something new by you in this board, but am crushed that I can't see the pictures. Where they should be are gray squares with yellow frogs instead. Make Image Shack behave!

It seems you have to be a Luddite for it to work -- at least I can see them on Firefox + Linux.

I can finally see all but one of the pics.
I thought the same as BJD about what this thread was going to be. What a pleasant surprise. You have a great sense of humor Tod!
How far away is this from your home? It does appear to be out in the middle of nowhere. Cool house.
Your mother is very attractive indeed. Such kind eyes or maybe that's just the loving way with which she looks at you.
Thanks for sharing this outing with us.
