Thanks for this, fumobici. I remember visiting the S. Maria della Spina when I was a little girl.

Very nice to see there is more to the place than the famous Leaning Tower.
Also your shot of that tower is very effective by contrasting it with a non leaning building

My one and only trip there was in 1971 but these photos absolutely make me want to return.

My father has a shot of the whole baptistry/campanile/cathedral complex from the late '60s while clearly shows that all of the buildings are tilted at angles of varying degrees. The soil just wasn't suitable for heavy building. I suppose in the intervening years they have shored them all up, but the campanile, being the tallest and narrowest, shows the most lean. I'll try to dig up that picture next time I'm at Dad's.

One of the blessings of all the tourists going to see only the Leaning Tower and Baptistry on a stopover or day trip is that the rest of the interesting stuff doesn't look overrun. Some wonderful buildings there.

Having only spent time in the Piazza dei Miracoli, I can only wonder how much more there is to Pisa. Thanks for showing that, great pictures.

Very nice pictures. I must say, I'm surprised how uncrowded Pisa looks.

Very nice pictures. I must say, I'm surprised how uncrowded Pisa looks. This was in April, so few tourists. April and May are great months to visit Italy, the weather will be a minor dice roll of course. If you are staying somewhere for a few days there'll be good weather you can enjoy, if everything is riding on one day--good luck. Florence, and even Rome are far less touristy in April or May, go in May if you want some warmth and don't mind more tourists or in April where when it is nice out having interesting places almost to yourself, but probably also being a bit chilly or having to dash into a bar or museum from time to time to keep dry. I'm thinking April, or even March might be perfect for Venice some day, if I dare.

I am making good on my urge to visit sooner than later - going to Italy in September! One of the places we will see besides Florence are Pisa and Lucca. Of course Venice!

Charleroi Airport - Pisa is usually 12 € with Ryanair. I was once booking for a roundtrip for 12 and the site said 'sorry, these prices are gone' and the price went up to 12 per leg, 24 in total...
Long time not gone though. Maybe I'll have to go (for job) soon. I dont enjoy it. But I lliked the atmosphere at evening (late) in the city. I was there with colleagues who had graduated there not that long ago.

When I booked flights on Air Lingus from UK to Ireland return, the price was also cheap BUT the airport taxes were about 6 times the airfare which just brought it back to a normal expensive flight. Is it the same with Ryanair?

Legally, the advertised price is supposed to be the real price, including airport taxes. What they can add are luggage fees, seat choice, etc. This law was passed when discount airlines were advertising really low prices to get people to book and then surprising them with extras. I recently booked with Ryanair for the first time and what I paid was the price I saw when I started.

Well, that's the law in France. I think in a lot of countries they reveal the full price at the last minute after hooking you in.

Yes, exactly Kerouac. I saw the 5 Euro price and immediately bells started to ring. No airline in the world can offer something so ridiculous. And of course when we booked the very first thing that came up was airport taxes. They were about 40euros so our flight cost 45euros. Maybe... I forgot about the charge for bags.

With Ryanair flights indicated I actually paid 12 euros. Inclusive VAT airport taxes etc. I paid recently about 22 euros Krakow Beauvais. Also all included. But yes I discarded an offer on some sites which had better than airfrance because they didn't include everything. That is the problem with non European flights. Un EUROPE price is fully explained. Only supplément is insurance - optional - and credit cards.
