I bought a packet of Knorr Chinese Manchurian sauce. When I read the instructions I was at a loss when Step 1. asks for grated cabbage & carrot to be mixed with half cup of Maida and water to make a Pakora style batter, and deep fry when rolled into balls. What is Maida? Is it like cornflour? What is Pakora? Sounds like a type of fritter? Please can someone set me straight!? The next step 2. is to make the Manchurian sauce by stir-frying spring onion, capsicum and onion before adding the contents of the packet with some water. Then you are supposed to add the vegetable Pakoras to the sauce.

Pakora is the Indian version of Japanese tempura. That's as much as I know about that. The internet tells me that maida is wheat flour and is actually the totally common bleached white flour that we are discouraged from eating.
