Hi again everyone, it's been a while! Surprise surprise, I've been doing some more traveling and making some more movies. Here's my latest project - part 1 of a 2 part video of my solo attempt at climbing Jebel Toubkal, Africa's 2nd highest peak (I'll give you 1 guess at which is the tallest...). It was an absolute blast, and definitely one of my proudest accomplishments so far. I hope you enjoy it!

That was absolutely spectacular, but some of those dry wadis are just screaming "flash flood waiting to happen!" The scenery is out of this world, and yes, the attraction of Marrakech wears off very quickly, even though it should be seen.
Unfortunately, more than 90% of the time that I have ever spent in Morocco was working in an office in Casablanca...

Jemaa el Fna Square, so big it is hard to catch the atmosphere with a camera, but your montage does it splendidly. Choice of music to accompany those excellent photos is spot on. The pink houses and towns that look like they grew out of the earth itself brought back memories. Can't wait for Part 2...you are certainly justified in feeling proud of this achievement. (but I wish you'd wear a hat )

(but yeah -- what Questa said about the hat.)

Oh, Yeti, What a task you set yourself! I feel for you with altitude problems. In Tibet I made it to the Everest Base Camp, where my legs wouldn't move. It seemed they forgot how to walk. Where is your next trip going? I like seeing your 'take' on things

Oh wow, this was on the verge of turning into one of those "found footage" movies! Exceptional camera work, as usual.

Ha, thanks guys. Luckily there were a few other people around during the climb, otherwise I don't think I would've attempted it...
As far as other trips, I just got back from Italy and got some great footage from the Amalfi Coast. I've also got 2 hard drives full of footage from other trips this year (it's been a busy one!). So there'll be lots more films coming, just a matter of finding the time to create them! I'll be sure to share them here when I do.

Sounds like you're not planning to try to climb any high mountains!

"Sod that for a game of soldiers" as we used to say. You certainly would NOT find me doing that, good on you for trying and showing us.

Or, Mossie, as we used to say, "Sod that for a lark"

cool, glad you made it up that mountain safely! i'll be traveling to morocco in june, and i'd love to do a hike like that - though i'll be traveling with a four year old, so that won't be possible (though she is doing well at hiking for her age) ... would love any tips for easy daytrips into the mountains though, so we might get to see some nature, too ...

Rikita, my son and his girlfriend went to Morocco last April. They had planned to take buses but eventually rented a car -- because they wanted to get out into the countryside and decided that the Moroccans didn't drive as badly as they had been told-- from Ouzarzate, I believe, but I can check. I just checked a mail he sent afterwards: Dades gorges and Todgha.

thanks, will check those out! though we will have to take busses (or if we get a car, then with driver, depending how much that costs), as neither i nor mr. r. have a driving license (yeah, we are a bit weird ...)

At least with a car+driver, you won't have people appearing out of nowhere and telling you that you have to pay to park your car by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

.... as neither i nor mr. r. have a driving license (yeah, we are a bit weird ...) If I was living where you live then I wouldn't have bothered getting one either. There's too many difficulties in having a car and the public transport is so good anyway.

In Paris too, many people don't have cars, although it usually looks good on a CV to say you have a driver's licence.

very occasionally i see an interesting job ad that i can't apply to because it requires a driving license, and very occasionally there is a situation where i think now a license and a car might be useful - but you are right, in my every day life i don't need a car. and owning one would just cost me lots of money. and if i didn't own one, i'd probably soon forget a lot of things and become a very insecure driver in the few occasions i'd drive ...
