any good way to stop myself from (unconciously) constantly scratching them and thus making them worse?

I suppose you mean itchy scabs rather than itchy scars.
Just a dab of white antiseptic cream should help a bit.

scabs is like a crust from a fresh wound? if so, then it is not what i mean. i mean a scar that is several years old, but sometimes itches. when i scratch, it gets somewhat red and inflamed, otherwise it is just a normal white line.

My mistake then. The only itchy scars I know of are the "phantom limbs" that amputees can feel. However, some mild lotion should help anyway.

googled about it a bit now, too, and apparently it is not uncommon for them to itch, so there is special lotion. i guess i will do a trip to the pharmacy today ...

Grandmothers might say to just put vinegar or pee on the spot.

Vaseline might help.

forgot to go to the pharmacy, but tried the diaper rash cream just now, and it helped a bit. also, earlier i took something out of the freezer and held it against there for a while, that was nice too. might try vinegar too (not sure i want to try pee), don't have vaseline in the house though ...

Or any sort of generic cold cream? It may just be that the scar is overtaut from being dry. I got agonising itching from what my doctor said was just unduly dry skin and I should get some aqueous cream from the pharmacist (cheap in quantity but tends to a faint whiff of disinfectant, so I switched to the cheapest ordinary cold creams I can find). There are anesthetic creams sold at pharmacies, lidocaine is the usual ingredient. They're good for itchy scars, insect bites, dry skin, whatever ails you.
