I knew he was French, but not that he was from Clichy-sous-Bois. (Which is not the Clichy right next to Paris; that is Clichy-la-Garenne).

In an hour, Roberto Alagna will be performing Verdi's opera Il Trovatore in the Roman theatre of Orange, built by Augustus Caesar in the 1st century. It's the closing night of the spectacular Chorégies d'Orange, an opera festival created in 1869 and rebooted in 1971. Roberto Alagna has been one of the stars of the Chorégies for the last 15 years, but this is supposedly his very last year, so tonight is his very last performance there.
Here are some excerpts from last year's Otello.
I have never been a big opera fan, but I am always impressed by the quality of the performances.
