A youtube slideshow I made with some of my tile pictures taken in the Sultans' tombs in Hagia Sophia plus a few from Topkapi. Do view it full-screen and set to high-definition, please!

This is so beautiful and the music perfect. I keep going back to watch it again. You have such an eye for detail...my tiles collections are more expansive with only a few at close range. If you want to add to your video here or make another, feel free to use any of my pics from "Decorated walls" or the Istanbul 2015 threads.
Meanwhile, I'll just sit here and watch it again...what is the soundtrack?

Thanks so much, Questa! I think the music is some Scandinavian piece with the word "sleep" in it. I just kept plugging in key words to the youtube music part of create-slideshow until I got something with a mood I thought fitting. Wish I'd written it down.
Those are just some of the tile photos I took, not to mention the number of pictures I have of Hagia Sophia. You've been there -- you know what a bath of visual delight Istanbul is.

That's a really excellent video, Bixa. It lets one examine the exquisite detail of some of the individual tiles but also shows the majesty of the effect filling an entire room.

Beautiful, Bixa. I especially like that rich blue colour.

Thank you all so much! I was sure there were others who would be as transfixed by those jewel-like things as I am.

So lovely! Well done on your video. You're right, this just begs to be viewed full-screen.

bjd...sometimes the gorgeous blue was made by crushed lapis lazuli gemstones added to the colouring. It is so vibrant, isn't it?

So kind, NYCGirl ~ thank you! You all might as well know now that I have a scary number of tile pictures to include in my as-yet-unmade Hagia Sophia thread. The whole place threw my neurotic love of detail into overdrive. Questa, I didn't know that -- wow! If you want to know more, you can look at this link from the Louvre, which has info which is probably only interesting to a ceramicist. I found this link from the Turkish Ministry of Culture to be more accessible, especially the section entitled "The Characteristics of İznik Tiles".
