I married into a very Irish surname so chose Irish names for my sons. It makes my blood curdle when I have to enrol a Vladimir Nguyen Wilson or Summer Mathilda Stokes. I also like short, easy to spell and say, and rare names, but not confusing. So #1 got Declan 1970 and #2 got Liam 1972 Mr Neeson had not started the run of Liams so the boys were able to get by with only using their forenames. And I had to get used to "Oh, you're Declan's Mum!" from total strangers.

There was an article in yesterday's NY Times about American parents choosing hopeful names for babies born during the coronavirus epidemic. One of them turns out to be Aurora, which they say means "goddess of the dawn".
Strangely, the name Donald has gone way down the list, although I can't imagine anyone has called their kid Donald for several decades.
Questa, we have an Irish sister-in-law and their eldest son is called Lorcan. A bit strange with a French surname and for a kid living in France. She kept telling us it was the name of an Irish king.

Ireland at that time had dozens of 'kings', who spent much of their lives warring with each over who owned this piece of bog or mountainside. After many years one king managed to bring about unification of the tribes and ruled in a positive way. This was Brian Boru and he was killed at the battle of Cloncarf (sp?) in 1215
My ex was descended from him and it is the middle name of one of my sons.
