I am enjoying my treadmill! I have been able to increase my time and speed the past few weeks.

Louis, I admire you so much for being able to stay the course. Like most people, I can lose the weight but wind up sliding back into my destructive habits.
Mich, I don't think I would ever use the words "enjoying" and "treadmill" in the same sentence, but am deeply impressed by your commitment and progress.

Thank you bixaorellana. I have heard it takes 30 days to change a habit. I feel that if your can keep it up for a month or two, it will become normal.

I admire Louis as well! and agree with you Bixa that it is difficult to stop gaining the weight back.
Thank you Bixa! It does feels very good, I was not sure if I was going to have enough co-ordination but I was determined (maybe stubborn as well).

the problem of not sliding back into old habits is why i try to lose weight only very slowly, and don't restrict myself further in what i eat - i'd be able to cut sweets almost completely for a little while, for example, and same with some other foods, but i am trying to find a balance between losing weight and finding a something i feel i can stay with possibly forever, without constantly feeling deprived ... and i am not strong enough to do without sweets forever, for example.

had to give up my run in the park early today, as there were dogs staring/barking at me, and i am scared of dogs ...

Never been afraid of dogs, but it nearly cost me a thumb... Went stupidly into a dogfight to protect my dog.

ParisWat - that's no way to lose weight - the average thumb only weighs about 2.5 ounces! Hope your hand is OK, though.
I've got the real secret - come down with a serious case of "le gastro" (stomach virus). Been really sick since Tuesday, with no signs of improvement - so far have lost about 3 kg.
Of course, when I'm able to think about eating something again, I'm sure at least some of what I've lost will come creeping back...

Take good care of yourself, Chexbres! That's not a good way to lose weight. Hope you're better soon.

Thanks htmb - believe me, this has not been my preferred method!

I'm going to lose weight fast, too, if the weird inflammation of the inside of my cheek does not subside. It hurts to eat anything.
Drinking is not a problem. Perhaps that is not so good.

Have you tried rinsing with warm salty water - 1 big TB in half a glass? Even if someone has to take blood pressure medecine, it's OK to try this every 3 hours for a day or two and if not better, run to the dentist. You can still drink alcohol if you want to.

My children have had canker sores in their mouths that were healed by salt water, but sucking on milk of magnesia tablets helped, too.
I guess much will depend on what's caused the inflammation.

How are you feeling now, Chexbres?
Kerouac, try holding some plain yogurt in your mouth.

I have tried everything from Dr. Tichenor's to canker gel. The only thing that has given me relief is... aspirin.

It might be time for a professional opinion. Maybe a pharmacist to start?
Sipping on alcohol sure couldn't hurt.

It was the pharmacist who sold me the canker gel.

The problem with the canker gel is that it makes me salivate enormously, so the only solution is to swallow it (no thank you) or spit it out within a few minutes.

Dr. Tichenor's?! Do you really have a bottle? If you tried that on the bo-bo, your eyes are probably still watering.
My grandmother told me that during the Depression, the local boozehounds bought Dr. Tichenor's & Dr. Pepper to make a nice cocktail. 10, 2, & 4!
Aspirin is anti-inflammatory, so should help.

kerouac - stop whining already and get thee to the dentist. You might have oral cancer. Or you might not. Only one way to find out.
As for me - well, nobody will ever again have the right to accuse me of being full of shit. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, since I still can't keep anything down and this has stopped being amusing. On the bright side, though, 6 pounds lost.
I'll be around more later on, if I can manage it. Have been missing all the witty repartee!

Yes, it does sound like you both need more expert opinions. Please take care of yourselves.

Do you mean Chexbres only has an amateur opinion on witty repartee?

No, I meant, the last time I checked, neither she nor Kerouac, had received their medical degrees. They each have certainly set the bar as to witty and intelligent response.

My cheek is *almost* back to normal. The miracle took place last night. Let's see how much I can eat tomorrow -- food I can chew!

The "fear tactic" always works... Glad the miracle happened. The person with the advance medical degrees told me today that I could look forward to another day or two of this nonsense, and it is better to make sure that whatever is bothering me gets out of there for good. French doctors practice "tough love". I am feeling better though, and this morning was seriously considering a cup of coffee, but realized that I was delusional and possibly suicidal, so stuck with Smecta, instead. My joy knows no bounds.

I believe there is a law that says 75% of the time you will only heal if you go out if your way to seek medical advice, spend a lot if time waiting to see a medical person, and pay to receive their sage advice. In our case here in the U.S., the more you pay, the quicker you heal. So glad you are both on the mends.

At this precise moment, my cheek is 100% healed, but that might be the Beaujolais. I'll find out tomorrow morning.
