How very cool. Please thank your daughter for the pics.
Growing up in NY it was always a tradition to watch the Macy's parade on TV. I have only seen it real life once and it was quite impressive. I most enjoyed watching the expressions of awe and joy on the children's faces. Those inflated creatures are humongeous!!!
Yes, I spoke with my niece who lives in NYC and she said the weather was simply superb. 61Fish. Unheard of really for this time of year that far North.

Thank you very much, Casimira. We've often watched the parade on television, or had it on in the background, over the years, too. It was fun watching yesterday, while at the same time hearing S's live reports.

I always watched the parade on television when I was little. After all, there was nothing else for kids to do that day. And that means I only ever saw it in black and white. (Of course in later years I did see 15-second snippets of it on the news in colour.)
Did they actually cook that turkey only after the parade? I always thought it was a task that one starts at the break of day.

The turkey preparation was interesting. This was her first attempt and, with a small oven, she had to first make sure it would even fit. S soaked the turkey in brine the night before and put the turkey into the oven about 14:00. They ate their dinner at 17:30. She said the turkey was delicious.

Cool photos! I've actually never seen the parade in person. It looks like a fun time and the crowds don't seem too out of control. (I've seen the ball drop in Times Square and I hated it. Never again.)
The Thanksgiving dinner looks delicious, S should be very proud of herself.

Thanks, Nycgirl. You two still need to meet up!
S and her friends were watching very close to where the parade starts on the upper west side. The crowds up there weren't so bad.
Maybe you'll take your little one some day!

Even under truth serum I would have sworn I replied to this thread, but.... At any rate, what a lovely celebration the young people made for themselves and what a wonderful slice of Americana you've made of this thread. To be perfectly honest, like most Americans I've seen bits of that parade on tv, but it never grabbed me. The photos here made me understand the appeal. Gotta say, that apple in the Big Apple did not fall far from the photographic tree -- superb photos!
