What is the process for write-in votes in the general election? The voter chooses who they want to win, regardless of whether they are on the ballot or not, and throws their vote away....

In Montana, I think it is possible that you live north of me. Just looking on a map, a good part of Montana seems to be north of Montréal. However, in terms of the US I can certainly say "south of me", but thinking of Vermont and northern New York State. Yup, I am at 46.87 latitude (and half of Montana is further north than that) and Montreal is 45.50. But I too think of Canada as being to the North.

I haven't checked this, but I think the majority of central and eastern Canada's population live south of the 49th parallel that is the boundary farther west. Still, we are slightly NNW of Bernie's town (we are the closest major city to Burlington VT, by far. Boston and NYC are much farther from it).

Bixa, unless you can round up all the non- voters and get them to vote in a block, third parties have NO CHANCE and can only act as “spoilers”, throwing the election to the guy least like them self. In this case Trump.

Here’s why Wisconsin matters. Trump won Wisconsin by only 22,000 votes in 2016. Since then, the Republicans have energetically worked to make it much harder for Democrats to vote, removing 100’s of thousands of voters from registration lists. Read the whole article to understand the significance of yesterday’s forced election. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/april-6-2020

You didn't read what I posted. I said he had to commit to the idea fully and unconditionally, not guarantee it comes to pass. If he won't even get behind the *idea* of healthcare as a citizen's right, I have no use for him or a party that will tolerate such political cowardice. I consider this a human rights issue analogous to segregation or even slavery—an issue so important to come down on the wrong side of is by itself politically disqualifying.
Would you vote for an avowed racist if there were two unapologetic racists running against each other because one was slightly closer to you politically? If no, you get where I am, if yes, we are too different to reach any kind of common understanding.

I reckon that the only way to "throw away" one's vote is to vote for a candidate you don't believe in. If I vote for Biden even though I find his position on healthcare completely untolerable, that would truly be "throwing my vote away".

Extra ballot paper? Before you hand it back cut some stripes in it so it can't be used again

I was reading the latest opinion poll today in what was it? The Washington Post? And it is so depressing that a health issue can cause such a partisan divide. You would think that health is a subject on which everybody could agree.

Apparently, the POTUS was hugely annoyed by this ad and made multiple tweets about it.

The husband of grotesque Kellyanne Conway is one of the people behind the Lincoln Project. You are right -- it did get under President Bluto's thin skin: Trump responded at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday, firing off a string of tweets attacking those associated with the Lincoln Project as "LOSERS" before turning his wrath on Conway. "I don't know what Kellyanne did to her deranged loser of a husband, Moonface," Trump tweeted, "but it must have been really bad."More here: www.sfgate.com/news/article/President-erupts-at-George-Conway-for-Mourning-15247661.php

A deranged loser of a husband. How does one dare write so...
I am always appalled at the way he talks and he tweets the way he talks.

Sad that Americans are becoming inured to his gross inappropriateness and his abandoning of norms, both of governing and societal norms. If he was a CEO of a company that wasn’t named after him, he’d have been fired long ago....

Ah, just when people think they've thought of everything, one can discover potential problems for unimaginable situations. Still, this is all highly unlike since there is such a long period between the election in November and the inauguration in January. (If I recall correctly, that was to cover the length of time it took elected officials to arrive at the Capital from every corner of the country on horseback.) In France, with no vice president, the president of the Senate becomes interim president pending the organisation of a new election, which must be organised between 20 and 34 days after the death or incapacitation of the president. The same president of the Senate in France actually held the position twice in 1969 (resignation of De Gaulle) and 1974 (death of Pompidou), so we have prodecures down pat.
