The UK pulling out of the Erasmus programme appears to be what most Europeans consider to be the biggest tragedy. Erasmus is perhaps the most important programme by the EU for promoting goodwill and lasting ties among the various countries -- and in both directions. The students make lifelong ties to the country that hosted them and become ambassadors of the culture and language, whereas the host countries are enriched by the presence of highly educated international students. Although there are no official statistics about this, it is estimated that at least one million Erasmus babies have been born since the programme started in 1987.
But I guess this little excerpt from Wikipedia explains the reason for the opposition of many of the British:

I think that our politicians and many in the leave camp have behaved abominably.

The Turing deal is hugely more expensive for all students involved. I guess the UK wants to ensure that only the wealthy will have access to quality university studies.

Not sure that who Peter Stefanovic is is even minimally relevant to the issue of BoJo lying yet again he raises.
Boris is just Trump in a different wrapper. Lazy, inept, disdainful of any truth or fact, unconcerned with anything but his own personal interests.

I read an article about Boris in one of the broadsheets recently (not the Guardian!) said that he found it really difficult to make a decision and found the easiest thing to do was prevaricate and dither for so long that all options gradually fall away one at a time until theres generally only one left...making his choice for him. It's an opinion

I belong to a few scientific bodies and they all have a presence on social media. In the scientific community (including industrial, health scientists and university based) in general the feeling is predominantly one of anger, loss and despair. Every effort will of course be made to maintain professional and educational links but we are no longer going to benefit from the cooperation, financial support and collaborative advantages that we have benefitted from for years. I expect that we will survive, it might take a while to rebuild and it's unlikely that the British government will offer much in the way of unbiased support.

I wouldn't say "nothing." I'd give him about a 20-30% DNA match. To base one's political career on pandering to populists takes a certain amount of deep-seated (probably innate) hypocrisy. Trump is more carefully coiffed, though.

I would say that Boris is evil by omission and Trump is evil by comission.
Boris is just a soul-less bag of wind who enjoys being in the limelight & doesn't care about everything falling down around him.
Trump actively and spitefully works to create shit and chaos.

I suppose everybody is disappointed by their political leaders. It did feel more secure in the bosom the EU. Maybe misguidedly...I felt like the British political leaders were guided by wiser heads. We will see. Got to give them a chance I suppose it will be interesting to see how they manage the economic recovery after the pandemic (which is still going on of course).

I wonder how (say in 6 months time) we will all feel about the deal? I wonder if some who voted leave are now regretting their decision. I know some of the farming community around here are. I have not heard anyone who was a remain voter saying - oh this is great much better than I expected. At the moment the focus has been on trade in the main, but now the debate and consideration is widening to education and science . We ( ie Jo Public) generally don't really know yet about security arrangements and little is yet understood about how foreign policy will play out, although there is some evidence available of how security/ foreign policy has been working so far . www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/28/uk-quietly-shifts-away-from-promise-of-deep-foreign-and-security-links-with-euAnd I don't think that there is much information for how the UK government will replace the EU aid payments and if they will allow countries such as Wales to control it ...Wales previously received aid direct from the EU.
