I had a word with the Police tonight. I asked them if they could clear the streets so I could take some photos. I wanted to illustrate the difference between the normal vibrant India and what it would be like if there was no one about. It’s just not the same at all. They were quite happy to do so but invariably missed one or two motorists. I prefer it with people.
In one shot there is a girl in a fluorescent green dress. I saw her in daylight this afternoon. To say she stood out would be an understatement.
I really have finished now. That was my last practical opportunity to whip the camera out.
Well Mark, you've done a sterling job sending us such a wide a varied amount of interesting photos! This last bunch had me notice that the 'chariot' in front of Chariot Beach Restaurant looks mighty modern as were some others I noticed. As for your last photo of a very worried Mother Theresa holding a baby ( at first I thought it was a little monkey) conjured up all kinds of captions to the photograph....."Oh blimey, I've forgotten the Pampers" - Thanks again for a very entertaining report!
I think that you failed to realise that both of the processions were to honour you, Mark, as an ambassador of Indian holidays in an atmosphere of people who are wary of visiting this splendid country due to a bit of negative propaganda.
