It feels like the apocalypse where I work, with people losing their jobs left and right.
Maybe I should try to find a more stable job? Or have I become a work adrenalin junkie - living on the edge, waiting for the axe to fall?
How are things where you work? Has your company been hit by the Global Recession?

We should have a major ax falling around November of this year, according to the rumor mill. Theoretically, nobody will be terminated but there will be transfers to departments where people don't want to go, which will result in resignations -- far less costly to the company.

Well, without divulging too much, we lost a major contract, so there will be major closures and people without jobs. It's very soul-sucking. I'm just glad I'm not a casualty - however, I am not deluded into thinking that I'm indispensable. It's scary times.

well i will have to start looking for a job in a few months... i wonder if the current economic situation isn't a good reason to stay in university yet a few years longer. i will probably end up unemployed anyway, right?

I haven't been affected so far and am not to worried about getting the axe since they need someone to do the studies. My husband works for the government, which is about as stable as you can get. However, things are starting to not look good overall. I have heard of quite a few people being laid off lately.

We are a small Non Profit so we are ok at the moment, as we do environmental education we get quite a bit of work through city council - although some of our funders have cut a couple of our projects for now. We are much more stable at the moment than probably we've ever been, but I've only been here a couple of years. However - it is election next month which worries me as changes in power cause changes in budgets etc.
Being in charge of finance and currently in charge of fundraising I do have concerns about stability coming into next year.
