I can't wait for Brienne and Tormund to start dating.

I watched the first few episodes of S1 recently while down in Eugene OR. It really is an impressive piece of work but I may want to continue reading the books or watching more episodes at some point so won't be back to this thread lest I get spoilers. I was actually surprised how compelling it is.

Oh, yaaay, Lizzy! I didn't feel that his eye contact over the wolfish mouthfuls of meat got her a-smolderin' under her tunic, but she definitely has some banked fires there. Tormund seems a brilliant choice to fan them, although I can't let go of my hope for a Jaime/Brienne union. Re: GofT books/GofT show ~ I am very careful when I read anything online about the show, as there are aficionados of the books lying in wait to blurt out details that the show is saving for later. I haven't read any of the books, but I think I'd want to read them all before embarking on the show, or vice-versa. Favorite line from the latest episode: "She's a midget -- who'd want her?" (said by one of the Dothraki mocking Daenerys) Daenerys is Westeros's answer to Kalinda, but even better because nothing can stop her, no indeed. I was a little foggy on some details because of the wait between the end of season 5 and the beginning of season 6, but found a special episode that is a big help. The series is great because of all the fabulous casting and acting. The books are not literature as I know it and are way too overwrought and purple for me. Plus they go on and on and on... The series is a rollicking ride, though. Good to watch in binges.

Ha ~ that was rather creative, shall we say? Remember, under that armor, Brienne is still a lady. She can almost not keep from raising her delicately-reared upper lip. I am not denying that Tormund's rough charm (okay, naked lust) might not win her over, but it will take some work.

Brienne's a pot that has been kept on a high simmer for years now. She's never had a man lustfully and openly desire her — she'll fall for sure. They are physically and temperamentally matched.

So you reject any movement toward a Jaime/Brienne hookup? I feel it would be a marriage of equals. She brings out the good in him and might finally save him from himself and his dreadful family.

Never going to happen. Jaime loves his sister past all redemption. Remember, one of the prophecies said that Cersei will die at the hand of a brother and I'll think that will be Jaime. He won't be up for much after that. Besides, who says that she can't have fun with both of them?

Come on, Lizzy ~ VISION!
Yes, Jaime loves Cersei, but it's been looking for a long time as though he loves her appropriately, as a brother. (Yes, yes, I know there was that one thingy a few episodes ago, but that was probably just for old time's sake.) As for the prophecy, there's nothing to say that there might not be another as-yet-unrevealed brother somewhere, even though we've been set up to think Jaime would fulfill the prophecy, Tyrion being too obvious a choice.
I feel that Brienne and Jaime would be truly noble as completely equal co-rulers. Also hot in completely unexpected ways.

Well, after last week's emotional wringer, I guess anything would fall flat by comparison, but maybe that's a good thing.
Still, yesterday's episode seemed padded and draggy to me. Admittedly, all series need those clunky/mundane episodes to keep the story line going.

I continue not watching Game of Thrones, but I must admit that I have noticed that just about every young British actor that I check on IMDb after seeing some other movie in which they participated has appeared on one or more episodes of it. In that respect, it is sort of the new Dr. Who (a series which I no longer watch).

Finally watched the season 6 finale last night. Life has been hell since June 26 since I had to be hyper-alert about accidentally opening anything that would spill spoilers.
Honestly, I was distracted by how wooden and speechy the dialogue was. I do love Lady Mormont, though.

Oh, I loved it, speeches and all. And Lady Mormont is badass. What silly, glorious escapism.

Rikita, do you watch it dubbed in German or in the original English? Subtitles?

original without subtitles ... i don't much like watching dubbed movies/shows anymore, used to when i was younger, but these days it usually makes me cringe, so i only watch something dubbed when i have to (because i am watching with someone who wouldn't do so, otherwise, like i watched harry potter in german recently with my little brother).

Okay, I have never watched Game of Thrones and have no intention of doing so. (But I know: "Never say never.") However, if one follows just a bit of popular culture as I do, I seem to have learned that Jon Snow was unexpectedly killed at some time. I think that he was a very popular character and that this was a major shock, although I don't really care how or why he was killed. Nevertheless, it appears that he was brought back to life not too long ago. This intrigues me more, because I don't know how his death was handled. Was he cremated? Was he buried so that the worms could get at him? Was he put in a glass coffin like Sleeping Beauty? So I am wondering how he was revived (no, I don't care why except to enthrall his fans). I think some witch or something did it, but did he just pop up in a puff of smoke? Did he exit a tomb like Jesus? Did the dwarf kiss him on the lips to wake him up? I fear that I will not be able to sleep until somebody tells me, and I know that using Google would be cheating.

He was laid out on a slab Kerouac...the witch did her stuff and everybody thought that she had failed...but when everybody left he came back to life.
We watch GoT on DVD as we don't have Sky tv and it's too risky to attempt to use pirate sites here (the fines are horrendous and anyway a lot of them are blocked)I buy the DVDs for my OH because he likes it (proably all the gratuitous violence and sex). It makes a change for a fantasy series to be so well produced with excellent special effects and decent actors.

I figured let's give it a chance, so I put on Game of Thrones this evening which was playing on one of the channels (Season 6 episode 1). I figured that a season opener might be interesting, but no. In 20 minutes, three people were killed (but absolutely none of their entourage tried to defend them), and then there was a surprising scene (to me) in some warm place that looked sort of Indian, particularly the costumes. Since all of the other scenes were in furs in some obviously cold place, I did not understand the transition. Another important person was stabbed to death there. Apparently nobody cares in this series when anybody is killed. And I did not care to continue watching.

I love fantasy, but admit that I threw myself at GofT two or three times before getting hooked. In something as serialized and with as many characters as this series, it's imperative that you start at the beginning. Tsk.

well, watching this episode is a bit like opening a book at a random page without knowing anything of the story, i suppose ... thing with season openers is, that most seasons of GoT end in cliffhangers, so things that happen in the beginning of the next season aren't that easy to understand, and there are a lot of parallel story lines ... even watching from the beginning, i needed a bit to get invested in the characters and story ...
but of course it also isn't for everyone, no show is i suppose ... just that with popular shows (and not saying you did it, just often meeting people that do) people sometimes seem to feel a certain pride for not liking it ...

I just watched the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones. My teeth are ground to nubs and I will never be able to lower my shoulders from ear level again. Arya is still one of the absolute best female characters ever.

I've got to wait for the DVD...don't worry about spoilers tho cos it's all over fb so I more or less know what happens...Arya was my Dad's favourite character when we first read the books.
