While the most ancient huminoid bones on the planet seem to be found in Africa, France seems to harbour the most remarkable cave paintings with places like Lascaux and Chauvet. However, now there is the Bruniquel cave which seems to contain some of the most incredible finds yet. Rather than cave paintings, which could easily be washed away by dripping water over the centuries, the new discovery concerns broken stalagmite and stalagtites arranged artistically -- 176,500 years ago! imageshack.com/a/img921/8913/M3DyG7.jpgOn top of that, the Neanderthals involved used fire in the cave to break some of the rocks. That is truly exciting! As more and more evidence and informed speculation emerges, it somehow seems that on a gut level we've always known that they were more like us than assumed.
