It's too big a number to really take in! I suppose since the planting was coordinated by experts, the young trees will be getting enough water to survive and thrive.

Apparently, 50 million trees is nothing.
Only 5% of Pakistan is forested, so the country decided to change things. It has planted ONE BILLION trees since 2014. It has a goal of planting 10 billion.
There is actually an honour roll of the top ten countries that have planted the most trees in recent years:
China 2.8 billion India 2.1 billion Ethiopia 1.7 billion Pakistan 1 billion Mexico 789 million France 723 million Turkey 716 million Peru 646 million Nigeria 626 million Kenya 542 million
Maybe there is some hope after all.

I saw something on the web about a chap in India who encourages his community to plant a tree every time a daughter is born to help combat negativity around the birth of daughters. The girls look after the trees as they grow too and the project has proved to be very successful.
